Islam, Indigenous Traditions, And Adventism In Kenya: A Comparative Study To Determine Effective Approaches To Evangelize Kenyan Muslims, Joseph Kilonzo Jan 2001

Islam, Indigenous Traditions, And Adventism In Kenya: A Comparative Study To Determine Effective Approaches To Evangelize Kenyan Muslims, Joseph Kilonzo

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Islam is spreading speedily in Kenya from the coast and the north towards inland areas, converting great number of persons and communities. The Islamic influence is evident in almost all spheres of life in the country, including social, political, economical, and spiritual. Muslims are particularly hard to reach with the gospel. However, this does not mean the task of reaching them is unsurmountable. The task of this project, therefore, was to provide a biblical, theological, and missiological strategy for presenting the gospel to Muslims in Kenya with the view of winning them over to Christianity (Adventism).

Church Growth In The Khasi-Jaintia Conference, Meghalaya, India, Khrawbor Kharbteng Jan 2001

Church Growth In The Khasi-Jaintia Conference, Meghalaya, India, Khrawbor Kharbteng

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The population of the Khasi-Jaintia Conference territory is made up of 80 percent Khasis and 20 percent other ethnic groups. The Khasis, an accepting and happy people, are receptive to the Christian message. This receptivity comes from their monotheistic concept of God and their admiration for the dedicated missionaries who brought the gospel but did not attempt to modify their culture, except for their refusal to accept social evils such as drinking, gambling, and sexual promiscuity. Seventh-day Adventism came to the Khasi region in 1915 with the arrival of E. G. Hardinge and family. The actual work of the Seventh-day …

The Need For Diversity In The Tourism And Hospitality Industry, Joel Frater Jan 2001

The Need For Diversity In The Tourism And Hospitality Industry, Joel Frater

Visions in Leisure and Business

Examined at a macro level, there are several key factors that are likely to influence the tourism and hospitality industry. The first factor is the changing face of the American population. A second factor is the rate of growth of the tourism industry. A third, and very important factor is the extent to which the industry embraces diversity. There is a need for industries to reach out to a diverse group of customers and employees. The need for cross-cultural responsiveness and the adoption of training models is apparent. This paper examines population and travel industry data-trends as a corner stone …

The Unm Strategic Plan, Board Of Regents

UNM HLC 2018-19 Assurance Argument Evidence

The original UNM Strategic Plan approved in December 2001. This strategic plan is composed of two parts: (1) the UNM Vision statement, Mission Statement, Values Statement, and Statement of Strategic Advantages; and (2) the collection of "Strategic Directions" and "Objectives" meant to give direction to the University's immanent and long term development. As noted in the document, the strategic plan was the result of extensive collaboration from the University community and other stakeholders, and unifies the capacities of administrative support with general academic endeavors under consolidated objectives.

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In 1960s Abraham Robinson has developed the non-standard analysis, a formalization of analysis and a branch of mathematical logic, that rigorously defines the infinitesimals. Informally, an infinitesimal is an infinitely small number. Formally, x is said to be infinitesimal if and only if for all positive integers n one has xxx < 1/n. Let &>0 be a such infinitesimal number. The hyper-real number set is an extension of the real number set, which includes classes of infinite numbers and classes of infinitesimal numbers. Let’s consider the non-standard finite numbers 1+ = 1+&, where “1” is its standard part and “&” its non-standard part, …

Innocents Abroad: Opportunities And Challenges For The International Legal Adviser, Wayne J. Carroll Jan 2001

Innocents Abroad: Opportunities And Challenges For The International Legal Adviser, Wayne J. Carroll

Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law

This Article argues that some regulatory authorities have not successfully adapted to the internationalization of the practice of law. First, the Author attempts to define the terms "international legal adviser" and "international legal advice." Next, the Author compares the existing barriers to practice in the United States and the European Union. The Author goes on to outline recent challenges and changes to these barriers to practice, including international efforts such as the WTO and the IBA and local rules in the United States and the European Union. The Author then analyzes the adequacy of existing regulatory regimes with regard to …

Peer-To-Peer Sharing On The Internet: An Analysis Of How Gnutella Networks Are Used To Distribute Pornographic Material, Michael D. Mehta, Don Best, Nancy Poon

Canadian Journal of Law and Technology

By our very nature, humans are creatures that communicate and network. Over the past several decades much of this communicating and networking has been facilitated by developments in information and communication technology. The social and economic transformations resulting from developments on the Internet have created several challenges for policymakers, lawmakers, courts and a wide range of other kinds of institutions. Some of these challenges are associated with the technologies and applications themselves. Other challenges result from content made available on the Internet and how users exchange data. Recent developments in peer-to-peer data exchange bring these two sets of challenges together.

Using A Neuro-Fuzzy-Genetic Data Mining Architecture To Determine A Marketing Strategy In A Charitable Organization's Donor Database, Korakot Hemsathapat, Cihan H. Dagli, David Lee Enke

Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper describes the use of a neuro-fuzzy-genetic data mining architecture for finding hidden knowledge and modeling the data of the 1997 donation campaign of an American charitable organization. This data was used during the 1998 KDD Cup competition. In the architecture, all input variables are first preprocessed and all continuous variables are fuzzified. Principal component analysis (PCA) is then applied to reduce the dimensions of the input variables in finding combinations of variables, or factors, that describe major trends in the data. The reduced dimensions of the input variables are then used to train probabilistic neural networks (PNN) to …

Comprehensible Input For Elementary Instruction, Comis Tang Loken Jan 2001

Comprehensible Input For Elementary Instruction, Comis Tang Loken

Graduate Research Papers

In the United States, more and more multi-ethnic linguistic populations will be entering school systems: The increasing need for helping these students from other cultures who know little or no English has become more and more apparent. Educators should modify their curricula and/or teaching strategies to improve English language learners (ELLs) ability in the use of English. Teachers help ELLs connect form (word) and meaning (concepts) and tie these to prior knowledge by providing understandable meaning, that is comprehensible input. Comprehensible input applies new words/sentences to old concepts. Vocabulary learning usually grows out of social interaction and talking personally to …

Analysis Of Casino Table Game Tipping By Comdex Conventioneers, Joseph Nelson Christensen Jan 2001

Analysis Of Casino Table Game Tipping By Comdex Conventioneers, Joseph Nelson Christensen

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This study analyzed the mean tips earned per table game dealer of a mega-resort casino located on the Las Vegas "strip" during Comdex, a large annual computer convention located in Las Vegas. Members of the media and gaming authorities have claimed that Comdex conventioneers do not gamble or tip as much as most convention attendees, yet no substantiated and documented explanation has been offered to explain why. This study hypothesized that Comdex conventioneers have the "programmer personality," which is low in the personality dimensions of neuroticism and extraversion. Since the amount tipped has been shown to positively correlate with high …
