Bayesian Analysis Of Test Day Milk Yields In An Unbalanced Mixed Model Assuming Random Herd-Year-Month Effects, Mehmet Zi̇ya Firat Jan 2001

Bayesian Analysis Of Test Day Milk Yields In An Unbalanced Mixed Model Assuming Random Herd-Year-Month Effects, Mehmet Zi̇ya Firat

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The main environmental effects in a mixed model are comparison or contemporary group effects or more precisely herd-year-month of calving subclass effects. The controversial subject of much discussion about the choice between treating contemporary group effects as fixed or as random has not still been settled in dairy cow evaluation. However, these effects are usually treated as fixed since nonrandom associations between sires and herds may lead to biased predictions if herd-year-month effects are accounted for as random. On the other hand, treating herd-year-month effects as random would increase the effective number of daughters or the information with which an …

The brachial plexus was prepared for the microdissection technique and was evaluated in terms of its formation. Sections of the origin level of roots (C_5, C_6, C_7, C_8 and Th_1) and the terminal branches (ulnar, median, radial (musculospiral), axillary (circumflex), and musculocutaneous nerves) were taken and the average numbers of fascicles were …

Developmental Coordination Disorder: A Discrete Disability, Beth P. Hands, Dawne Larkin Jan 2001

Developmental Coordination Disorder: A Discrete Disability, Beth P. Hands, Dawne Larkin

Health Sciences Papers and Journal Articles

Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) have a motor learning disability that reduces their ability to interact with the environment and compromises their social and emotional development. Accordingly, these children should be given the extra assistance and consideration given to children with other learning difficulties. Even though many countries have well developed policies to support students at educational risk, children with movement difficulties are not widely considered to be members of this category. This paper argues for a change in education policy and practice in order to better support children with DCD or Motor Learning Disability (MLD). Improved teacher education …

Don't Ask Us To Explain Ourselves, Don't Tell Us What To Do: The Boy Scouts' Exclusion Of Gay Members And The Necessity Of Independent Judicial Review, Taylor Flynn

Faculty Scholarship

In Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, the U.S. Supreme Court held by a five to four majority that the Boy Scouts of America is entitled to ban gay persons from membership despite New Jersey's prohibition against sexual orientation discrimination. The Dale majority sharply departed from the Court's long line of expressive association cases, in which it has rejected the claims of private clubs that application of civil rights laws to their membership policies violates their associational rights. This Author argues that by "reading" the plaintiff in Boy Scouts of America v. Dale as a cipher for gay sex, and …

From Statute To Contract: The Law Of The Employment Relationship Reconsidered, Eileen Silverstein Jan 2001

From Statute To Contract: The Law Of The Employment Relationship Reconsidered, Eileen Silverstein

Hofstra Labor & Employment Law Journal

Most observers would say that the employment relationship is regulated largely by statutes. This Article argues that the statutory regulation of the employment relationship, and its correction of market failures, is disappearing under the cloak of judicial decisions upholding contracts which, in one form or another, find individuals to have waived their and the public's statutory rights. In a variation on the nineteenth century's transformation of the employment relationship from status to contract, we have the contemporary move from statute to contract. Part I of this Article examines how contractual waivers operate within the framework of the statutory regulation of …
