Application Costs And The Design Of Licensing Procedures, Georg Von Wangenheim Sep 2001

Application Costs And The Design Of Licensing Procedures, Georg Von Wangenheim

German Working Papers in Law and Economics

License procedures are a common way of enforcing regulation of activities whose effects on social welfare depend on the specificities of the single case. Building permits may serve as an example, but many other licensing procedures follow the same structure. In particular in Germany, the long duration of such procedures and the low predictability of their outcomes have been identified as a major obstacle to economic progress. As a consequence, the German legislators have invoked legislation to accelerate the procedure. This paper investigates how the acceleration approaches affect not only the costs of citizens who already led an application but …

Vcu News (2001-09-12)

VCU News, 2001-2002

VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

Marketing and production data collected from weaned calves (628 head) in a university sponsored retained ownership demonstration program are analyzed to identify factors affecting the annualized rate of return when retaining ownership versus selling the calves at weaning. Data were collected on the following characteristics associated with the calves: 1) ranch-of-origin production management practices; 2) feedlot performance; 3) carcass merit; 4) health history; and 5) market prices. Retained ownership until slaughter was more profitable, on average, when compared to selling calves at weaning. The calculated annualized rate of return to retained ownership versus selling calves at weaning averaged 11.5% per …
