Are Interest Rate Derivatives Spanned By The Term Structure Of Interest Rates?, Massoud Heidari, Liuren Wu
CRIF Working Paper series
We investigate whether the same finite dimensional dynamic system spans both interest rates (the yield curve) and interest rate options (the implied volatility surface). We find that the options market exhibits factors independent of the underlying yield curve. While three common factors are adequate to capture the systematic movement of the yield curve, we need three additional factors to capture the movement of the implied volatility surface.

Kermit Victor Lipez was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 18, 1941. He grew up in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and attended Haverford College and later Yale Law School. He worked for the Civil Rights division of the Department of Justice. Lipez began working for Governor Ken Curtis in September 1968, and after three years became a legislative aide in Muskie’s Senate office preparing statements and research for Muskie’s speechwriters. After a year, he returned to Maine and authored the book: Kenneth Curtis of Maine: Profile of a Governor. He opened a private law firm in Maine in 1975, and …

We report on the discovery of Cepheids in the spiral galaxy NGC2841, based on observations made with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 on board the Hubble Space Telescope. NGC2841 was observed over 12 epochs using the F555W filter, and over 5 epochs using the F814W filter. Photometry was performed using the DAOPHOT/ALLFRAME package. We discovered a total of 29 variables, including 18 high-quality Cepheids with periods ranging from 15 to 40 days. Period-luminosity relations in the V and I bands, based on the high-quality Cepheids, yield a reddening-corrected distance modulus of 30.74 ± 0.23 mag, which corresponds to …

Three-jet production in the reaction ep → eXp has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 42.74 pb-1.The data were measured in the kinematic region 5 < Q2 < 100 GeV2, 200 < W < 250 GeV and 23 < MX < 40 GeV. The diffractive signal was selected by requiring a large rapidity gap in the outgoing proton direction. Jets were reconstructed in the centre-of-mass system of X using the exclusive kT-algorithm. A sample of three-jet events in diffraction has been identified. Differential cross sections were measured as a function of the jet pseudorapidity and jet transverse momentum with respect to the virtual photon-pomeron axis. The jets going in the pomeron direction are broader than those going in the virtual-photon direction. This is consistent with models predicting that gluons are predominantly produced in the pomeron direction and quarks in the virtual-photon direction. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
