Artificial Insemination Of Swine, Jeff Clapper Oct 2000

Artificial Insemination Of Swine, Jeff Clapper

SDSU Extension Extra Archives

Enhancing physiological processes and reducing production costs associated with mating are key considerations for optimizing swine breeding herd management. Successful matings from either natural mating or artificial insemination, involve coordinating insemination with ovulation. Hand mating or pen mating takes advantage of the boar’s innate ability to determine which females are in estrus and carry out the breeding process. However, as the swine industry has evolved, artificial insemination is emphasized as a way to capitalize on advantages beyond estrus detection.

Plastic Solder Paste Stencil For Surface Mount Technology, Christopher K. Wong, Daniel Waldorf Oct 2000

Plastic Solder Paste Stencil For Surface Mount Technology, Christopher K. Wong, Daniel Waldorf

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Solder paste masks or stencils are an integral part of the manufacturing process for surface mount PCBs. This study examines the feasibility of a process for rapid creation of a solder paste stencil using thermoplastic material. CNC laser cutting of the stencil geometry is replacing traditional use of chemical etching on metal sheets to produce stencils. Laser cutting has been used to improve process speed, accuracy, and cost. This research attempts to continue to simplify and reduce costs in the stencil making process by proposing as the stencil material a common thermoplastic that can be cut easily and quickly using …

New Ag Sciences Magnet School, Valerie Egger

Nebraska Network 21: Publications

Soon, high school students in Mead, Nebraska will conduct experiments at the nearby 9,500-acre University of Nebraska Agricultural Research and Development Center (ARDC). Students will work directly with local agriculture businesses gaining experiences in applying agricultural techniques.

The agriculture program at Mead High School in Mead, Nebraska has been very successful in teaching agriculture production and agriculture leadership through FFA for many years. They have produced graduates that are highly successful in agriculture production and agribusiness. It is with this tradition in mind that the school reinvented their agriculture education program. Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Acetaminophen, Cyclooxygenase 2, And Fever, Daniel L. Simmons, David Wagner, Kenneth Westover Oct 2000

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Acetaminophen, Cyclooxygenase 2, And Fever, Daniel L. Simmons, David Wagner, Kenneth Westover

Faculty Publications

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are frequently used antipyretic agents that most probably exert their antifever effect by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX)–2. Thus, COX-2–selective drugs or null mutation of the COX-2 gene reduce or prevent fever. Acetaminophen is antipyretic and analgesic, as are NSAIDs, but it lacks the anti-inflammatory and anticoagulatory properties of these drugs. This has led to the speculation that a COX variant exists that is inhibitable by acetaminophen. An acetaminophen-inhibitable enzyme is inducible in the mouse J774.2 monocyte cell line. Induction of acetaminophen-inhibitable prostaglandin E2 synthesis parallels induction of COX-2. Thus, inhibition of pharmacologically distinct COX-2 enzyme activity by …

The Sydney Games And Cathy Freeman Overshadow The Corruption And Distortion, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2000

The Sydney Games And Cathy Freeman Overshadow The Corruption And Distortion, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

The Sydney Olympics, like all those before it, had both its wonderful moments and its controversies. For Sydney undoubtedly the defining moment occurred when Cathy Freeman took the gold medal in the 400-meter race. A nation stopped and gave its undivided attention as one of its citizens of aboriginal origin ran away from the field. The 110,000 fans in Olympic Stadium cheered wildly, thousands just outside the stadium watching on a large screen television did the same, and in downtown Sydney yet another large vocal crowd screamed in joy at the sight of Freeman's exquisite run. As if to underline …

Faculty Publications

We report on the spectral dynamics of the reflectivity, site-selectively excited photoluminescence, photoluminescence excitation, and time-resolved luminescence in quaternary AlInGaN epitaxial layers grown on GaN templates. The incorporation of a few percents of In into AlGaN causes significant smoothening of the band-bottom potential profile in AlInGaN layers owing to improved crystal quality. An abrupt optical bandgap indicates that a nearly lattice-matched AlInGaN/GaN heterostructure with large energy band offsets can be grown for high-efficiency light-emitting devices.
