Shapes Of Ministry In The New Testament, P. Gerard Damsteegt

The chapter evaluates an interpretation of the New Testament ministry that argues that there was no specific local church organization spelled out in the Bible. The absence of organizational structure allows for the ordination of women in the local church and presents Junia as the first female apostle and Phoebe as a female minister. The evaluation presents the biblical structure of leadership and shows that through incorrect interpretation of the texts this view distorts the biblical view of local church leadership.

Since hermeneutical issues were the very reason the book was requested, the underlying interpretive methodology deserves careful review and evaluation.

This chapter responds to the argument that the laying on of hands is a part of the ordination service. In the Bible both men and women experience the laying on of hands, so both genders should qualify for ordination to the ministry. The chapter's evaluation brings out that this reasoning fails to take into consideration that the Bible has certain requirements for the office of elder and minister. Therefore, a woman does not have these biblical qualifications and consequently should not be ordained to these positions.

There is a substantial amount of existing literature that focuses on the revolutionary events of 1989 in East-Central Europe. Yet, there are few comparisons which apply a comparative-historical approach to a small set of cases. A large body of existing literature provides the ideal situation for a comparative-historical study. This thesis will test the utility of applying a comparative-historical methodological approach to the events of 1989 in four countries in East-Central Europe. The St. Thomas Christians in Kerala claim their spiritual heritage from Thomas the apostle. Yet they are not generally aware of a number of scriptural teachings including the seventh-day Sabbath, which Thomas and their forefathers observed. For the last one hundred years there has been no developed Seventh-day Adventist strategy to proclaim the full biblical message, which was their heritage, to this people group.

Problem

Since the introduction of Christianity in Uganda there has been a tension between customary and Christian marriage practices, each struggling to exist at the expense of the other. The crux of the struggle is the validity and sufficiency of customary marriage vis-a-vis Christian marriage rites. Christian youth of marriageable age have been caught in the crossfire, and marital stability has been one of the casualties of the struggle. This study suggests bridging the gap between the two practices.

The task of this dissertation was to study the factors that have affected the growth of the Kolhapur church in south Maharashtra and to develop a strategy to revitalize the church. Predicting Turnover And Retention In Nursing Home Administrators: Management And Policy Implications, Douglas A. Singh, Robert C. Schwab

Administrator turnover and its impact on the quality of patient care are important concerns in the nursing home industry. This study evaluates a model to determine which factors, attitudes, and personal characteristics can predict tenure. Responses to a survey from 290 nursing home administrators (NHAs) who furnished data on their previous positions were analyzed using logistic regression methods. The extracted model correlates tenure with the administrator's past patterns of stability, community attachment, organizational commitment, and facility performance. The model is particularly effective (85% accuracy) in flagging NHAs who are likely to depart within their first 3 years of employment. Implications …

Miniature spectrometers incorporating array detectors are becoming a viable, low-cost option for field and process deployments. The performance characteristics of one such instrument are reported and compared with those of a conventional benchtop instrument. The parameters investigated were wavelength repeatability, photometric linearity, instrumental noise (photometric precision) and instrumental drift.

Agreements To Waive Or To Arbitrate Legal Claims: An Economic Analysis, Keith N. Hylton

As arbitration agreements have grown in use, they have become controversial, with many critics describing them as a disguised form of waiver. This paper presents an economic analysis of waiver and arbitiation agreements and applies this analysis to the evolving arbitration case law in the Supreme Court and elsewhere. The paper examines the conditions under which parties have an incentive to enter into these types of agreement, and their welfare implications. It shows that, if parties are well informed, they will enter into waiver agreements when and only when litigation is socially undesirable, in the sense that the deterrence benefits …

In recent years, two women stood convicted of highly publicized major crimes in Massachusetts. Katherine Ann Power ("Power") was a fugitive who committed felony-murder in 1970. She led a life on the run as a fugitive until 1993 when she revealed her true identity and surrendered to authorities to face the consequences of her crimes. Louise Woodward ("Woodward"), an au pair originally from England, gained notoriety on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean when she was convicted of killing the baby entrusted to her care. Silver(I) complexes with aromatic donors are thoroughly analyzed (with aid of the Cambridge Crystallographic Database) to identify the basic structural factors inherent to the bonding of an arene ligand. Most strikingly, the distance parameter d (which simply measures the normal separation of Ag from the mean aromatic plane) is singularly invariant at d = 2.41 ± 0.05 Å for all silver/arene complexes, independent of the hapticity (η¹ or η²), hybridization, or multiple coordination. As such, a systematic series of stilbenoid ligands has been successfully designed to precisely modulate the penetration of silver(I) into the ligand cleft, and …

Isolation of the unstable 1∶1 complex of 4-nitrosoanisole with NO⁺PF₆⁻ allows its precise X-ray structural characterization. The charge-transfer crystal is formed via strong N⋯N coordination [the distance of 1.938(5) Å corresponding to a σ-bond order of ≈0.2] in the mean plane of the planar 4-nitrosoanisole donor. Thorough analysis of its molecular geometry in terms of valence resonance and MO schemes reveals a strong charge polarization with a local negative charge localized on the nitroso group and a local positive charge distributed over the adjacent p-methoxybenzyl moiety. Such a charge distribution accommodates the well-known passivation of …

On The Stabilizing Action Of Protein Denaturants: Acetonitrile Effect On Stability Of Lysozyme In Aqueous Solutions, Evgenii L. Kovrigin, Sergey A. Potekhin

Stability of hen lysozyme in the presence of acetonitrile (MeCN) at different pH values of the medium was studied by scanning microcalorimetry with a special emphasis on determination of reliable values of the denaturational heat capacity change. It was found that the temperature of denaturation decreases on addition of MeCN. However, the free energy extrapolation showed that below room temperature the thermodynamic stability increases at low concentrations of MeCN in spite of the general destabilizing effect at higher concentrations and temperatures. Charge-induced contribution to this stabilization was shown to be negligible (no pH-dependence was found); therefore, the most probable cause …
