This Essay is about Ellenor Frutt, Annie Dornell, Joyce Davenport, and other women criminal defense attorneys of prime time television. It examines how high-stakes network television presents sympathetic stories about women working as criminal defense attorneys while simultaneously supporting the popular thirst for the harshest criminal penalties. Real women who choose to represent criminal defendants are fundamentally out of step with angry and unforgiving attitudes toward crime and criminals. This study examined the effect of including a human figure drawing on the hindsight bias among undergraduate psychology students. Six groups were given a description of a 15 year-old boy who was experiencing school difficulties. Some of these groups also were given outcome information suggesting that the boy's difficulties were due either to social-emotional problems or to learning problems. In addition, some groups also were given a human figure drawing made by the boy. Participants then assigned likelihood probabilities to the two outcomes. The Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) is commonly used to assess visuospatial skills, visuoconstruction, visual memory, and executive functioning. In order to capture the sequential process used while drawing the figure, the order of pen strokes needs to be recorded. Two traditional methods are used to record this information, the flow-chart method and the pen-switching method. Although it has been suggested that pen-switching may interfere with performance, to date, no research has been conducted to assess whether ROCF performance significantly differs due to administration method.
