In Asia, the studies on mergers and takeovers are still very scarce. With the rise of financial crisis in 1997, there has been an increase of corporate takeovers and mergers. In the light of other relevant empirical literature on the subject from different established equity markets, the study is made to determine the effects of acquisition announcements on the price behavior of the Asian bidding and target firms. Antimicrobial Potential Of Honey On Some Microbial Isolates, Nzeako B. C, Hamdi J

Objective: To assess the antimicrobial potential of honey against certain microbial isolates. Methods: Samples of commercial honeys sold in Makkah area of Saudi Arabia were checked for their antimicrobial activities using standard organisms, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The minimal inhibitory concentration end points of six honey samples found to possess antimicrobial activities were used to determine the sensitivity patterns of some isolates from the laboratory. The temperature stabilities of the honey samples were also determined. Results: The six honey samples had differing levels of antimicrobial activities with the standard organisms and with the laboratory isolates. Black Forest …

Evaluating Resilience Factors In The Face Of Traumatic Events In Kuwait, Al-Naser F, Sandman M

Objective – To identify the personality characteristics of resilience in contemporary Kuwaiti society, in the aftermath of Iraqi invasion of the State of Kuwait during 1990. Method – Ego Resiliency Scale (ER89), a 14-item self-report inventory scale with a maximum score of 56, was administered to a sample of 495 male and female students of Kuwait University, aged 17 and above. Students were also grouped according to gender, age, type of education, family type, social status, educational bent, and marital status to assess the effect of these variables in their resilience scores. Pathophysiology Of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome: A Review, Al Riyami B, Al Rawas O, Hassan

Sleep apnoea syndrome is a common disorder and a major health hazard that affects many body systems. It is particularly associated with increased cardiovascular and cerebrovascular morbidity and mortality. Among its other manifestations include increased daytime somnolence, fatigue, depression, reduced sexual libido and endocrine dysfunction. The main risk factors are obesity, male gender, middle age and heredity. Despite being a recognised major health problem in the industrialised countries, this condition has not yet received its due importance in the developing world. Solitary non-parasitic cysts of the liver are commonly asymptomatic and do not require treatment. Rarely, the cysts become symptomatic and are then best treated surgically. The optimal surgical treatment is debatable. We report a case treat ed by laparoscopic deroofing which is arguably a safe and effective approach.

Evaluating The Impacts Of Uncontrolled Air Flow And Hvac Performance Problems On Florida's Commercial And Institutional Buildings - Final Report, Florida Solar Energy Center, James Cummings

Twenty commercial and institutional buildings located in central Florida were tested for uncontrolled air flow and cooling system problems. Tested buildings were selected based on three criteria; 1) buildings with large exhaust fans, 2) buildings with leaky ceilings, and 3) education buildings. They ranged in size from a 650 square foot portable classroom to a 50,000 square foot elementary school, with an average floor area of 6518 square feet.

Diagnostic inspection and testing was performed in each building to identify problems related to uncontrolled air flow or HVAC system or control problems. The tests were performed to characterize or identify …

J. Harold McQuade was born in Mexico, Maine in 1919 to Cecilia (Edmunds) and Edwin Daniel McQuade. He grew up in the Rumford-Mexico area, and attended the public schools and was captain of the ski team. After high school, McQuade worked for the Oxford Paper Mill. He graduated from Boston University, and returned to Rumford to own and operate an insurance firm. He eventually got out of the insurance field and opened a travel agency, handling accounts including the Oxford Paper Mill. He is a lifelong Republican, but supported and contributed to Ed Muskie’s campaigns. He had minimal personal contact …

David Newsom was born January 6, 1918 in Richmond, California. He attended Berkeley, graduating in 1938 with a B.A. in English, then on to Columbia for a graduate degree in journalism. He returned to San Francisco to work at the San Francisco Chronicle. He received Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship from Columbia (July 1940-May 1941) and traveled extensively in Japan, Indonesia, India, Africa and S. America, and met Gandhi while in India. Returning home in 1941 and entering the Navy, he became a Naval Intelligence Officer and spent time at Pearl Harbor. After the war, he returned home and ran small local …

Frank Anastasio was born in Rumford, Maine on October 4, 1913, the son of Sicilian immigrants Frank and Rose (Pettinato) Anastasio. He grew up in the Rumford area and went to school with Ed Muskie. Frank was the oldest boy in the family and his father died (1922) when he was young. He began working at the age of 9 to support the family and later married Diana and became a barber. Frank passed away September 16, 2006.
