Trust is an emotion developed over time. Trust is an inner belief, or confidence, that a person, entity, object, or circumstance will act in accordance with one's personal, pre-determined expectations. Law enforcement is a complex element of our society; there is a necessity for continual clarification of contemporary issues to avoid miscommunication. Law enforcement is a high profile public entity. By it's very nature …

Enlarging The Administrative Polity: Administrative Law And The Changing Definition Of Pluralism, 1945-1970, Reuel E. Schiller

Vanderbilt Law Review

"The availability of judicial review," wrote Louis Jaffe in 1965, "is the necessary condition, psychologically, if not logically, of a system of administrative power which purports to be legitimate, or legally valid." In so writing, Jaffe suggested that the abstract beliefs that Americans have about the way government is supposed to work define the relationship between courts and the administrative state. It does not follow, logically, from the existence of administrative agencies that their actions must be policed by courts. In- stead, our beliefs about how public policy ought to be made and about which institutions are best at protecting …

Immigration: An Overview Of Information Resources, Bert Chapman Oct 2000

Libraries Research Publications

Advocates of more restrictive immigration policies stress concerns over the USA’s ability to support immigrant residents and whether newer immigrants threaten the US national identity and social cohesion. Proponents and opponents of current US immigration policy will use figures from the 2000 census to justify their respective arguments in upcoming debates on this subject. This article examines a variety of immigration literature resources such …

Effects Of Environment & Experience On Underwater Work Performance, Gershon Weltman, Raymond A. Christianson, Glen H. Egstrom Oct 2000

Effects Of Environment & Experience On Underwater Work Performance, Gershon Weltman, Raymond A. Christianson, Glen H. Egstrom

Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments

Five experienced divers and 15 novice divers completed a complex underwater asembly task and sets of written problems in a water-filled tank and in the ocean. Performance measurements included subtask completion times, problem-solving accuracy, activity analysis, and basic physiological variables. Experienced divers showed essentially unchaged performance between tank and ocean. Novice divers performend slower than the experienced divers in the tank and showed a makred decrement in both assembly time and problem-solving accuracy in the ocean. The results suggest that diving experinece improves underwater motor skills rather than work strategy, and that psychological stress was a significant factor even at …
