Effects Of Different Media, Type And Concentrations Of Auxin On Callus Induction And Plant Regeneration From Young Inflorescences Of Yellow Bluestem (Bothriochloa Ischaemum(L.) Keng), Ersi̇n Can, Rüştü Hati̇poğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to determine the effects of different media, auxin types and concentrations on callus induction and plant regeneration from young inflorescences of 15 ecotypes of yellow bluestem ( Bothriochloa ischaemum). The young inflorescences were cultured on two different basal media (LS and SH) containing different concentrations (2, 4, 6, and 8 mg/l) of two different auxins (2, 4-D and Dicamba). The results showed that the ecotypes were significantly different from each other in callus induction rate, callus weight per dish and regenerate number per inflorescence segment. Due to its strong emphasis on spiritual development in conjunction with physical and cognitive development, Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy and its role in Waldorf schools have been relegated to relative obscurity within the educational establishment. Steiner's theories have been perceived as too radical and unusual for incorporation into traditional educational practices. However, upon closer examination, the organizational structure of Steiner's developmental theory bears significant similarities to better-known models of human development. For example, the division of children's cognitive growth into a hierarchical series of stages is also found in Piaget's celebrated model of human development. An inventory of the vegetation types of Castelporziano Estate (Rome), including examples of Mediterranean ecosystems in excellent preserved condition, was compiled. Because Leaf Area Index (LAI) changed with forest structure and developmental stages, maximum LAI provided a good estimate of maximum biomass accumulation. Plant biomass estimation, ranging from 61 tons ha^-1 to 360 tons ha^-1, fitted well into 14 biomass classes; the highest values (from 301 tons ha^-1 to 360 tons ha^-1) were related to stratified forested vegetation types, including the more mature Pinus pinea plantations, Quercus ilex evergreen forests and broad leaf mixed …

In the political arena, there are currently two central and competing views of homosexuality. Pro-family organizations, working from a contagion model of homosexuality, contend that homosexuality is an immoral, unhealthy, and freely chosen vice. Many pro-gay organizations espouse an identity model of homosexuality under which sexual orientation is an immutable, unchosen, and benign characteristic. Both pro-family and pro-gay organizations believe that to define homosexuality is to control its legal and political status.

Levothyroxine Sodium is one of the most critical drugs for a significant segment of the population. The development of HPLC method of analysis for levothyroxine sodium revealed that there were significant stability problems associated with this drug. On August 14, 1997, FDA announced that there was evidence which shows significant stability and potency problems associated with orally administered levothyroxine sodium products. Alcoholism is a major public health problem globally. More than twenty studies have examined the association between the neurotransmitter dopamine DRD2 TaqI polymorphism and the onset of alcoholism, with half supporting an association. This study was based on the assumption that there is a relationship between the presence of the DRD2, one’s exposure to stress, and alcohol consumption. We examined the gene-stress interactional model in a sample of 309 males of Mayan descendents in the Olancho district of Honduras (age range 18-87). A total of 756 female adolescents, aged 13 to 18 years, from five public high schools in Antelope Valley Union High School District located in North Los Angeles County participated in this study between February 1999 and March 1999. The ethnic composition was 53.3% White/Anglo Americans, 19.3% Hispanics or Latinos and 10.2% Black/African Americans. The constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control and their underlying beliefs) were assessed to determine the predictors of low-fat milk and regular soda consumption. A cross-sectional design with group-administered questionnaires was utilized.

Background. Typically, infant mortality decreases as maternal age increases in teenagers. In contrast to these national data, San Bernardino County (SBC) experienced a different phenomenon in 1989-1994 among very low birthweight (VLBW) infants. The infant mortality rate (IMR) of VLBW infants born to mothers under 17 years old (283 per 1000 live births) was significantly lower than the IMR of VLBW infants born to mothers between the ages of 17-19 years old (430 per 1000 live births) (p = .02).

The growth of the northern quahog, Mercenaria mercenaria, has been mathematically modeled over both the nursery stage and the complete life so as to develop expectations of growth as a function of environmental suitability. Then, the growth of northern quahogs in an experimental nursery upweller was evaluated as a function of system operating parameters (flow rate and stocking density) and other environmental parameters to determine the limiting factors in this critical phase of shellfish aquaculture.
