The aviation industry depends heavily on the high-reliability of its equipment and human performers. One method used to assist human performance has been the job performance aid. Traditionally job performance aids were only considered repositories for information and substitutes for training. Today, however, job performance aids have taken on a new role that includes aiding the human information process. Consequently, it was determined that an effective job performance aid design model would be beneficial to those responsible for job performance aid design. A gold enzyme electrode for lactate, fabricated on silicon has been developed. Standard silicon processing and micromachining techniques have been applied to the fabrication of three sensor types.

Two planar types and a containment sensor are presented. The enzyme lactate oxidase (LOX) was immobilised in a suitable matrix and placed on a planar gold electrode or in a gold coated, KOH etched silicon cavity. Activity and stability of the enzyme LOX was assessed in a modified BSA gel and two sol gel matrices. Currently, no published study exists examining the effect of raised temperatures on Type 1 collagen fibril denaturation in a physiological environment. This study hypothesizes that some proportion of collagen in a physiological environment melts gradually as the temperature is increased above body temperature, and that the proportion will increase at a specific temperature with added time, until the rate of melting is slowed and a plateau is reached. This investigation will aid in a better understanding of how collagen reacts to any situation where the temperature of the connective tissue increases above normal. During the recent years, a significant number of anti-epileptic drugs have been approved for prescription in different countries. In addition, some other promising drugs are in various stages of development. Soon after each drug has found its place in the therapeutic arsenal, pregnancies with exposure occur, with an increased risk of birth defect and developmental disturbances. As regards the possible teratogenic effect of the new anti-epileptic drugs, apart some individual reports we have only the results of pre-clinical toxicological studies which are difficult to extrapolate to the human situation, because of the well-known interspecies differences in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The goal of this paper is to critically evaluate Anthropological Evolutionary Ecology (AEE) as a paradigm by utilizing the method for theory framework developed by Pickett et al. (1994). While AEE can contribute in some ways to our understanding of human behavior through methods and techniques derived from neo-Darwinian theory (as well as current approaches in animal behavior and decision theory), AEE as a paradigm remains theoretically ill-equipped for the study of human ecology. In most human societies, the term "insect" denotes a category that includes organisms other than those of the Linnaean class Insecta, such as bats, snakes, toads, spiders, lizards, scorpions, and slugs. Such a pattern of ethnozoological classification occurs because human beings tend to project feelings of noisomeness, danger, disgust, and disdain toward some non-insect animals (including people) by allocating them to the culturally determined category "insect". Metaphors related to this lexeme highlight the negative aspects that are normally associated with real or imaginary perceptions of "insects". This article briefly discusses this cultural pattern. On the 150th anniversary of Florida's statehood, historians Nick Wynne and James Horgan compiled a collection of essays that illustrated the history of Florida by focusing on the major events in each decade since the mid-1800s. Schnur wrote the chapter that examined the battle between old Florida (the "Pork Chop Gang") and new Florida (the "Lamb Chop" politicians) that took place over education, the role and scope of government, legislative apportionment, race relations, and the civil rights movement. Ribulose-1,5-diphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) large subunit genes (rbcL) were obtained by amplification and cloning of 554 or 614 bp sequences of indigenous phytoplankton populations at 2 stations in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. One station (Stn 4) was located in a low salinity, high chlorophyll plume (the ŒGreen River¹) which has previously been shown to contain elevated levels of Form IA rbcL mRNA while the other (Stn 7) was in oligotrophic, oceanic water. A diversity of rbcL sequences was obtained, spanning 3 of the 4 evolutionary clades of Form I RuBisCOs. Six nucleotide sequences obtained from Stn 4 were …

Horizontal divergence and vertical velocity (w) are estimated at 0°, 140°W using an array of five subsurface moored acoustic Doppler current profilers deployed from May 1990 to June 1991 during the Tropical Instability Wave Experiment. The record-length mean flow is divergent within the near-surface region and convergent within the thermocline, with maximum convergence located at the high speed core of the Equatorial Undercurrent (EUC). This pattern of divergence results in upwelling at and above the EUC core (with maximum value of 2.3 × 10−5 m s−1 located at 60-m depth) and downwelling below the core. The relative slopes in the …
