Fathers' Lived Experiences Of Perinatal Loss: A Hermeneutic Study, Leann R. Nelson
Fathers' Lived Experiences Of Perinatal Loss: A Hermeneutic Study, Leann R. Nelson
Theses and Graduate Projects
Despite a growing body of perinatal loss research since 1970, the lived experiences of fathers bereaved by perinatal death are virtually unexamined. This interpretive study presents shared meanings and common themes uncovered, using hermeneutic research methodology, in the transcribed texts of in-depth interviews with three bereaved fathers. The fathers' narratives revealed how they lived with two abiding philosophical questions--"Why us?" and "What if?"--during and for a long time after the actual loss experience. Fathers' cultural understanding of life and death as a natural progression was undermined by their loss experience, leaving them with an understanding of the tentativeness of life …

Wildlife Strikes: A Growing And Costly Problem For Civil Aviation In The Usa, Sandra Wright, Richard Dolbeer
Wildlife Strikes: A Growing And Costly Problem For Civil Aviation In The Usa, Sandra Wright, Richard Dolbeer
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
Wildlife strikes, defined as aircraft collisions with birds or other animals, are a serious safety and economic concern in the USA and elsewhere. Liability issues related to wildlife strikes are also growing for airports and aircraft operators. In this paper, we will give examples of some significant strikes, show trends in wildlife strikes, explain why the strike problem is an increasing concern and discuss what actions can be taken to reduce and prevent strikes.

Seasonal Variability In Brown Tree Snake (Boiga Irregularis) Response To Lures, John A. Shivik, William G. Wright, Larry Clark
Seasonal Variability In Brown Tree Snake (Boiga Irregularis) Response To Lures, John A. Shivik, William G. Wright, Larry Clark
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
In continuing investigations of brown tree snake, Boiga irregularis, attraction to carrion odor, we hypothesized that the attractiveness of live or dead and visually apparent or concealed lures varies seasonally. We determined that lure condition (live or dead mouse lures) and sensory cues (visually apparent or concealed lure) interact among wet and dry seasons. Concealed carrion lures were more effective during the dry season than the wet season, but the effectiveness of live mouse lures showed less seasonal variability. We identified weather variables that covary with observed seasonal trends in capture rates and investigated the influence of recent feeding …
Bypass: A Memoir, Joseph A. Amato
Bypass: A Memoir, Joseph A. Amato
Purdue University Press Books
This inquiry into matters of heart, conducted under the shadows of pending surgery, awakens themes of boyhood, education, and marriage and prompt questions about loyalty to a deceased father, connections with immigrant grandparents, loss and rediscovery of faith, and solitude versus community. A medical narrative, the book also chronicles a span of contemporary American life. Throughout Amato's account, the consistent reminder of his upcoming bypass invites readers to reflect on their own lives and selves. This is an intelligent and witty guide to an immensely common operation that nevertheless for each patient constitutes a unique experience-a veritable rite of passage.

A Study Of School Social Workers' Perceptions Of Disruptive School Behaviors And Their Role In Response To The Problem, Thomas E. Lucy
A Study Of School Social Workers' Perceptions Of Disruptive School Behaviors And Their Role In Response To The Problem, Thomas E. Lucy
Theses and Graduate Projects
This study examines the topic of disruptive behavior in the schools, with a focus on how the role of the school social worker relates to this issue. Specifically, this research asked two questions. First, how do school social workers perceive the issue of disruptive behavior in the schools? Second, what is the role of the school social worker in addressing this issue? To answer these questions, 75 school social workers from the Minnesota School Social Work Association were given a self-administered mail survey. The data showed that school social workers feel disruptive behavior is an increasingly difficult issue faced in …

Immunocontraception Of White-Tailed Deer With Gnrh Vaccine, Lowell A. Miller, Brad E. Johns, Gary J. Killian
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
One of the most successful immunocontraceptive vaccines used for wildlife is porcine zona pellucida (PZP). Several authors have published on the use of PZP immunocontraceptive vaccines to immunosterilize white-tailed deer. This is the first long term study of the use of GnRH contraception of deer. This GnRH immunocontraceptive study was part of a multi-year White- Tailed deer infertility study on the deer herd at Pennsylvania State University, (PSU) University Park, Pennsylvania in cooperation with National Wildlife Research Center, (NWRC) Fort Collins, CO.

Substance Dependent Women And Family Support, Christina Marie Decker
Substance Dependent Women And Family Support, Christina Marie Decker
Theses and Graduate Projects
This hermeneutic study was undertaken to discover the lived experience of two substance dependent women with family support. This study attempted to capture the experience of two women and show how this experience affected their recoveries. The use of the hermeneutic research method allowed the researcher to engage in a process with the participants, both shaping and being shaped by the experience. The women's experiences were interpreted around the theme of connection. This involved a fluid process by which the women disconnected from original family, connected with other supports and then reconnected with original family in their new role as …
