Multiple Personality Disorder, Accountable Agency, And Criminal Acts, Robert F. Schopp Jan 2000

Multiple Personality Disorder, Accountable Agency, And Criminal Acts, Robert F. Schopp

Nebraska College of Law: Faculty Publications

Smedley Wormwood is an accountant who is indicted for embezzling funds from the company for which he works. He generally presents an impression of an unobtrusive, conventional, compliant, "vanilla" individual. When his lawyer interviews him about the charges, Smedley seems innocent, frightened, and bewildered. In discussing the details of events around the time of the alleged crime, Smedley becomes somewhat vague and then admits to some lapses in recall. Smedley then startles the lawyer by apparently undergoing a marked change in attitude, tone of voice, and apparent self-identity. The lawyer realizes that she is now discussing the crime with a …

Anxiety, Stress And Job Satisfaction Versus Education Levels In Rural Police Officers, Robert D. Newell Jan 2000

Anxiety, Stress And Job Satisfaction Versus Education Levels In Rural Police Officers, Robert D. Newell

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Twenty nine police officers from four different departments in rural areas were tested regarding levels of stress or anxiety they experienced from inter-department issues, rules, and regulations. These findings were then compared with the officer’s levels of college education and contrasted with those officers with no college education. Additionally, comparisons were made regarding levels of college education and scores from the Fear of Negative Scale, Job Satisfaction Index, and the Stress Quiz. Further comparisons of the scores were made between officers who had attended college and those who had not and had experienced stress from critical incidents.

While there were …

Tourism And Terrorism: A Historical Analysis Of Major Terrorism Acts And Their Impact On Tourism Destinations, Abraham Pizam, Ginger Smith Jan 2000

Tourism And Terrorism: A Historical Analysis Of Major Terrorism Acts And Their Impact On Tourism Destinations, Abraham Pizam, Ginger Smith

Rosen Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Since before the end of the Cold War, terrorism acts have had major effects on tourism destinations. As a result, the 'shadowy, mobile, and unpredictable' forces of terrorism are becoming an unfortunate part of the travel and tourism landscape. Few can forget the explosion that killed three in Paris in 1986, the home-made pipe bomb in Tel Aviv in 1990, the November 1997 massacre of 58 tourists at Luxor's Temple of Hatshepsut in Egypt, and the Kenyan and Tanzanian US Embassy truck bombings killing 263 in August 1998. This paper provides a quantitative analysis of major terrorism events around the …

Survey Of Existing I&R Services And A Nebraska 211 System Cost/Benefit Analysis Jan 2000

Survey Of Existing I&R Services And A Nebraska 211 System Cost/Benefit Analysis

University of Nebraska Public Policy Center: Publications

In June, 1999, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NHHSS) and the United Way of the Midlands requested that the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center coordinate a feasibility study of a statewide Information and Referral (I&R) system for health and human services. Because several I&R systems around the country make use of the 2-1-1 three digit number for I&R information, and there are a number of states investigating reserving 211 for statewide I&R services, this report uses the 211 nomenclature although there has been no state Public Service Commission designation of 211 for this purpose in Nebraska. …

Religious Brotherhoods In Chechnya, Yavus Z. Akhmadov, Stephen R. Bowers, Marion T. Doss, Jr., Valeria Ciobanu Jan 2000

Religious Brotherhoods In Chechnya, Yavus Z. Akhmadov, Stephen R. Bowers, Marion T. Doss, Jr., Valeria Ciobanu

Faculty Publications and Presentations

In 1997, Professors Stephen R. Bowers and Marion T. Doss, Jr., began an effort to promote the systematic study of the problems of political violence and eventually opened an office in the Former Soviet Union to develop research on this topic. Their operating philosophy governing was that such a base would enable them to involve local scholars in research, thus producing internationally based studies that would reflect both the U.S. and the non-U.S. perspectives. This document is the first produced by this method and is a study of the Chechen Sufi brotherhoods in Chechnya and their role in that conflict.
