Moving Seventh-Day Adventist Churches Beyond The Two Hundred Barrier, David Ripley Jan 2000

Moving Seventh-Day Adventist Churches Beyond The Two Hundred Barrier, David Ripley

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem. Seventh-day Adventist churches have found themselves largely unable to grow beyond the 200-in-attendance barrier. Book membership may continue to increase, yet attendance plateaus. Outside of the institutional setting, there are very few Anglo Adventist churches that have grown beyond the barrier.

Method. The pastors of ten churches that were chiefly Anglo, 300-400 in attendance, and not in an institutional setting were surveyed. Ten churches with less than 220 in attendance and having a book membership of at least 350 were also surveyed. These were compared, looking for features that would make a difference.

Results. Differences do occur between the …

Developing Lay Ministry Through Small Groups In The Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In Korea, Gil Ho Choi Jan 2000

Developing Lay Ministry Through Small Groups In The Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In Korea, Gil Ho Choi

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

As churches continue to grow from small to large communities, they struggle to meet the need of a growing community. There is a need to involve more church members in the ministries of the congregation. The churches also need to assimilate the new church members. Increasing demands are placed upon the pastors of churches to meet the challenge.

Method

This study deals with a program designed for lay ministry through small groups. It consists of two main parts. The first considers the concepts of small-group lay ministry in the theological, sociological framework of the local church. It includes an …

Important Factors In The Development Of Nascar, Kathleen Munger, David L. Groves Jan 2000

Important Factors In The Development Of Nascar, Kathleen Munger, David L. Groves

Visions in Leisure and Business

This study investigated the success of the National Association of Stock Car Automobile Racing (NASCAR). An examination and analysis of history as related to success provided a framework to understand the sport. Content experts in the motor sport field (identified through leadership identification) validated previously established NASCAR categories through a review process. Critical incident interviews were conducted to identify and prioritize the most important identified elements within these categories with the results of the interviews being compiled in a typology format. The typology was then reviewed by the Content experts for validation and modification of the framework. The study identified …

An Exploration Of The Nascar Fanage, Kris Rufenacht, David L. Groves, Mark Foster

Visions in Leisure and Business

NASCAR as a sport has the most loyal fans. The purpose of this project was to identify potential variables that explain such loyalty. None of the coefficient of determination (r2) were very strong. Those variables that show the most promise for characterizing the fans were those variables related to the experiential base of NASCAR.

Much To Do About Something: Destabilizing Law's Support Of Dominant Ideologies In The Context Of Lesbian Mother Custody Claims In Canada, Natasha Kim Jan 2000

Much To Do About Something: Destabilizing Law's Support Of Dominant Ideologies In The Context Of Lesbian Mother Custody Claims In Canada, Natasha Kim

Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies

This article surveys a very specific legal context: the claims of mothers, who are lesbians, in custody disputes over their children, with their heterosexual ex-spouses, in Canadian courts. The author examines the developments in judgments surrounding custody involving a lesbian mother over the past two and a half decades, focusing on the line of reasoning within the judgments rather than the substantive results (that is, to whom custody is granted). The end result will be an attempt to better understand the interaction between law as a discourse and the dominant ideologies of familialism, motherhood, and heteronormativity. In Part Two, the …
