Control Of High-Harmonic Generation And Laser-Assisted X-Ray-Atom Scattering With Static Electric And Magnetic Fields, D. B. Milošević, Anthony F. Starace Oct 2000

Control Of High-Harmonic Generation And Laser-Assisted X-Ray-Atom Scattering With Static Electric And Magnetic Fields, D. B. Milošević, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

We consider the use of strong static fields to control two related atomic processes: laser-assisted x-ray-atom scattering (XAS) and high-harmonic generation (HHG). We first analyze the laser field intensity dependence of the differential cross section (DCS) plateau structures for the laser-assisted XAS process in the presence of a static electric field as a function of the number of photons exchanged with the laser field. Besides the recently discovered (Milošević, D.B. and Starace, A.F., 1998, Phys. Rev. Lett., 81, 5097) extended plateau for absorbed photons, which indicates a substantial increase of the scattered x-ray energies, a new plateau, having many …

A method of doping involves soaking single-walled carbon nanotubes in molten iodine. Excess physisorbed iodine may then be removed by annealing.

Practical Proof Of The Validity Of The Target Theory By Simulating Cellular Targets, Salih F. M Oct 2000

Practical Proof Of The Validity Of The Target Theory By Simulating Cellular Targets, Salih F. M

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Objective – To practically prove the validity of the target theory as a mathematical model to describe and understand themechanisms involved in cell killing by ionising radiation. Method – Experimental validation of the target theory was attempted using Bacillus megaterium spores. Sets of 100 vials containing averages of 1, 2, 5, 50 and 500 spores per vial was exposed to varying gamma radiation doses in presence (oxic) and absence (anoxic) of oxygen (O2). The percentage of the vials that exhibited bacterial growth after 6 days of incubation was taken as containing one spore or more, which survived a given dose. …

What Do Test Scores In Texas Tell Us?, Stephen P. Klein, Laura S. Hamilton, Daniel F. Mccaffrey, Brian M. Stecher

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

We examine the results on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS), the highest-profile state testing program and one that has recorded extraordinary recent gains in math and reading scores. To investigate whether the dramatic math and reading gains on the TAAS represent actual academic progress, we have compared these gains to score changes in Texas on another test, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). ...
