Environmental Assessment Wild Horse Gathering For The Fifteenmile Wild Horse Herd Management Area, United States Bureau Of Land Management
All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)
The purpose for management of wild, free roaming horses is to comply with law and policy pertaining to wild, free roaming horses on public lands. The policy of the BLM addresses a range of topics including establishment and maintenance of Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) in Herd Managment Areas (HMAs) in a humane, safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.

With great pleasure, the Utah Tomorrow Strategic Planning Committee presents its 2000 Report of the Utah Tomorrow Strategic Plan. This report represents another step in this important effort to encourage planning and cooperation in meeting the needs of Utahns. Many hours of work and coordination between the Legislature, Judiciary, executive agencies and departments, local governments, and the public at large are realized with the publication of the Utah Tomorrow Strategic Plan. Executive departments and local governments play a key role in the implementation of statewide strategic goals — their involvement is critical to its success. This is a living, breathing …

Wilderness managers have traditionally managed wilderness lands based on the ecological and social content of wilderness areas. The authors propose a framework to systematically account for the biophysical, socioeconomic, and wildness characteristics of the broader landscape context. The method was applied to the proposed wilderness lands of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah. The results illustrate patterns of interdependencies across the landscape. Spatial data demonstrate links between the integrity of proposed wilderness lands and the management of adjacent land units, and links between the economic health of local communities and the management of proposed wilderness and adjacent federal …

Precise Doppler measurements from the Keck/HIRES spectrometer reveal periodic Keplerian velocity variations in the stars BD -10°3166 and HD 52265. BD -10°3166 (K0 V) has a period of 3.487 days and a semiamplitude of 61 m s-1. An orbital fit yields a companion mass M sin i = 0.48 MJUP, a semimajor axis of a = 0.046 AU, and an eccentricity of e = 0.05 (consistent with zero). HD 52265 (G0 V) has a period of 119.0 days, a semiamplitude of 45 m s-1, an eccentricity of 0.29, a semimajor axis of a = …

The Grooved Pegboard Test With Ld And Non-Ld Children, Aimee H. Earley
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) at identifying learning disabled (LD) children between the ages of 9 and 16. Fifty-six children were involved in the study: 27 in the LD group and 29 in the non-LD group. All subjects had a full scale IQ that fell in the 80 to 120 range. A battery of neurological tests was administered to all subjects and the data gleaned from each test was individually analyzed. Findings showed that the administration of the Grooved Pegboard Test produced statistically significant results in determining LD when subjects used their dominant hand …

Landscape Associations Of Frog And Toad Species In Iowa And Wisconsin, U.S.A., Melinda G. Knutson, John R. Sauer, Douglas A. Olsen, Michael J. Mossman, Lisa M. Hemesath, Michael J. Lannoo
Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS
Landscape habitat associations of frogs and toads in Iowa and Wisconsin were tested to determine whether they support or refute previous general habitat classifications. We examined which Midwestern species shared similar habitats to see if these associations were consistent across large geographic areas (states). Rana sylvatica (wood frog), Hyla versicolor (eastern gray treefrog), Pseudacris crucifer (spring peeper), and Acris crepitans (cricket frog) were identified as forest species, P. triseriata (chorus frog), H. chrysoscelis (Cope's gray treefrog), R. pipiens (leopard frog), and Bufo americanus (American toad) as grassland species, and R. catesbeiana (bullfrog), R. clamitans (green frog), R. palustris (pickerel frog), …

Incidence Of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Among American Indians In Oklahoma, Jennifer H. Mcquiston, Robert C. Holman, Amy V. Groom, Stephen F. Kaufman, James E. Cheek, James E. Childs
Zoonotics and Wildlife Disease: Publications
Althought he state of Oklahoma has traditionally reported very high incidence rates of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) cases, the incidence of RMSF among the American Indian population of the state has not been studied. The authors used data from several sources to estimate the incidence of RMSF among American Indians in Oklahoma.

We report a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of MnO−x and MnOx(x=1–3) clusters. Theoretically, geometrical configurations of various isomers of the clusters were optimized and vertical detachment energies for the anions were evaluated. The ground state of MnO− was predicted to be 5Σ+, followed by an excited state (7Σ+) 0.14 eV higher in energy. The ground state of MnO−2 is 5B2, with a 3B1 isomer 0.15 eV higher. MnO−3 is predicted to be a singlet D3h cluster. Vibrationally resolved photoelectron spectra of MnO−x were measured at several photon energies and under various experimental conditions, and were interpreted based on the …

Geraldo is a story about what an immigrant undergoes when he leaves one culture and tries to 'join' another culture. An immigrant suffers a triple disruption: he loses his sense of place, he enters into an alien language, and he finds himself surrounded by beings whose social behavior, norms and traditions are very unlike, and sometimes even offensive to his own. The explanation of the leading ideas in this manual help students and teachers explore the philosophical themes in Geraldo. The discussion plans, exercises, and activities are designed to foster and cultivate the process of philosophical dialogue in the classroom.

Conservative P1 Conforming And Nonconforming Galerkin Fems: Effective Flux Evaluation Via A Nonmixed Method Approach, So-Hsiang Chou, Shengrong Tang

Given a P1 conforming or nonconforming Galerkin finite element method (GFEM) solution ph, which approximates the exact solution p of the diffusion-reaction equation −∇·K∇p + αp = f with full tensor variable coefficient K, we evaluate the approximate flux uh to the exact flux u = −K∇p by a simple but physically intuitive formula over each finite element. The flux is sought in the continuous (in normal component) or the discontinuous Raviart–Thomas space. A systematic way of deriving such a formula is introduced. This direct method retains local conservation property at the element level, typical of mixed methods (finite element …

On The Vertical And Adiabatic Excitation Energies Of The 21a(G), State Of Trans-1,3-Butadiene, Jason Lappe '00, Robert J. Cave

The excitation energy to the 21Ag state of trans-1,3-butadiene is examined using a variety of ab initio electronic structure techniques. While analogous states have been shown to be the lowest singlet excited states for all longer polyenes, for butadiene the position of the 21Ag state relative to the HOMO → LUMO excitation (11Bu) has been difficult to establish theoretically. We employ a variety of methods (CASSCF, CASPT2, MRSDCI, QDVPT) to examine both the vertical and adiabatic excitation energies for this state. At the ground-state geometry, the vertical excitation energies …
Brownian Motion And Planar Regions: Constructing Boundaries From H-Functions, Otto Cortez
Brownian Motion And Planar Regions: Constructing Boundaries From H-Functions, Otto Cortez
HMC Senior Theses
In this thesis, we study the relationship between the geometric shape of a region in the plane, and certain probabilistic information about the behavior of Brownian particles inside the region. The probabilistic information is contained in the function h(r), called the harmonic measure distribution function. Consider a domain Ω in the plane, and fix a basepoint z0. Imagine lining the boundary of this domain with fly paper and releasing a million fireflies at the basepoint z0. The fireflies wander around inside this domain randomly until they hit a wall and get stuck in the fly paper. What fraction of these …
