Arthur County Test-Hole Logs: Nebraska Water Survey Test-Hole Report No. 3, Robert F. Diffendal Jr., James W. Goeke Sep 2000

Arthur County Test-Hole Logs: Nebraska Water Survey Test-Hole Report No. 3, Robert F. Diffendal Jr., James W. Goeke

Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications

In 1930, the Conservation and Survey Division (CSD) of the University of Nebraska and the United States Geological Survey began a program of cooperative groundwater studies in Nebraska. Since then test drilling by use of rotary drilling equipment has been an integral part of that program. This report contains logs of all the test holes drilled in Arthur County under the program as well as those drilled by the Conservation and Survey Division with financial assistance from other government agencies.

The maps in this report show the locations of all test holes drilled in the county since 1934.

Spatial And Temporal Changes In Land Use And Land Cover From 1988 To 1992 In The Upper White River Watershed, H. D. Scott, J. M. Mckimmey Sep 2000

Spatial And Temporal Changes In Land Use And Land Cover From 1988 To 1992 In The Upper White River Watershed, H. D. Scott, J. M. Mckimmey

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Changes in Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) in the upper White River Watershed from 1988 to 1992 were analyzed and plotted using the geographic information system known as Geographic Resources Analyses Support System (GRASS). This portion of the White River Watershed includes two sub-basins the East Fork and the Middle Fork. In addition, LULC changes were determined for two smaller sub-basins, Shumate Creek and Cannon Creek, located in the East Fork of the White River. The sources and methods of interpretation of the 1988 and 1992 of data were different. Thus, there were variations in how certain portions of …

Exception Handling In Workflow Systems, Zongwei Luo, Amit P. Sheth, Krzysztof J. Kochut, John A. Miller Sep 2000

Exception Handling In Workflow Systems, Zongwei Luo, Amit P. Sheth, Krzysztof J. Kochut, John A. Miller

Kno.e.sis Publications

In this paper, defeasible workflow is proposed as a framework to support exception handling for workflow management. By using the “justified” ECA rules to capture more contexts in workflow modeling, defeasible workflow uses context dependent reasoning to enhance the exception handling capability of workflow management systems. In particular, this limits possible alternative exception handler candidates in dealing with exceptional situations. Furthermore, a case-based reasoning (CBR) mechanism with integrated human involvement is used to improve the exception handling capabilities. This involves collecting cases to capture experiences in handling exceptions, retrieving similar prior exception handling cases, and reusing the exception handling experiences …

Singularly Perturbed Control Systems Using Non-Commutative Computer Algebra, J. W. Helton, F. Dell Kronewitter, W. M. Mceneaney, Mark Stankus

Mathematics

Most algebraic calculations which one sees in linear systems theory, for example in IEEE TAC, involve block matrices and so are highly non-commutative. Thus conventional commutative computer algebra packages, as in Mathematica and Maple, do not address them. Here we investigate the usefulness of non-commutative computer algebra in a particular area of control theory − singularly perturbed dynamic systems − where working with the non-commutative polynomials involved is especially tedious. Our conclusion is that they have considerable potential for helping practitioners with such computations. Commutative Gröbner basis algorithms are powerful and make up the engines in symbolic algebra packages' …

Using A Mensuration Approach With Fia Vegetation Plot Data To Assess The Accuracy Of Tree Size And Crown Closure Classes In A Vegetation Map Of Northeastern California, Samantha J. Gill, Jeff Milliken, Debby Beardsley, Ralph Warbington Sep 2000

Using A Mensuration Approach With Fia Vegetation Plot Data To Assess The Accuracy Of Tree Size And Crown Closure Classes In A Vegetation Map Of Northeastern California, Samantha J. Gill, Jeff Milliken, Debby Beardsley, Ralph Warbington

Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences

The accuracy of the Lassen-Modoc vegetation map was assessed using data from a grid of permanent Forest In-ventory and Analysis (FIA) plots in conjunction with a fuzzy logic approach. This paper presents the results for the Modoc National Forest. The main foci of this paper are the methods and results for assessing the accuracy of tree size and crown closure classes using a mensurational approach based on calculations made from the plot data. This approach proved very useful in conjunction with fuzzy accuracy methods. Higher error rates reported for crown closure classes may be due to a variety of factors …

Ground Water In Northwest Arkansas: Minimizing Nutrient Contamination From Non-Point Sources In Karst Terrane, R. K. Davis, J. V. Brahana, J. S. Johnston Sep 2000

Ground Water In Northwest Arkansas: Minimizing Nutrient Contamination From Non-Point Sources In Karst Terrane, R. K. Davis, J. V. Brahana, J. S. Johnston

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

The purpose of the project is to evaluate the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BPMs) in preventing non-point source contamination of the ground-water resources in the karst terrane of northwestern Arkansas. Limestone and dolomite aquifers in the region are highly vulnerable to contamination. Ground-water studies performed in the region during the last two decades indicate degradation of these carbonate aquifers by nutrients and bacteria. The expeditious growth of the poultry industry during this period, in combination with the inordinate population growth of the region constitute a threat to the ground-water resources from both point sources and non-point sources of contamination. …

Illinois River 1999 Pollutant Loads At Arkansas Higway 59 Bridge, Marc A. Nelson, Thomas S. Soerens Sep 2000

Illinois River 1999 Pollutant Loads At Arkansas Higway 59 Bridge, Marc A. Nelson, Thomas S. Soerens

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Automatic water samplers and aU. S. Geological Survey gauging station were established in 1995 on the main stem of the Illinois River at the Arkansas Highway 59 Bridge. Since that time, continuous stage and discharge measurements and water quality sampling have been used to determine pollutant concentrations and loads in the Arkansas portion of the Illinois River. This report represents the results from the measurement and sampling for January 1, 1999 to December 31, 1999.

Senior Seminar: A Capstone Course In The Computer And Mathematical Sciences, Ken Oberhoff, Ron Barnes

Humanistic Mathematics Network Journal

This paper describes the evolution of a course developed to tie together many strands of activity encountered by students in the computer and mathematical sciences (CMS). The senior level course is required of all majors in our computer science, applied mathematics and statistics undergraduate degree programs. One of the primary purposes of the course is to refine writing and presentation skills needed for those who will later pursue individual research projects. Writing projects are organized around the theme of “Ethical Decision Making in the Computer and Mathematical Sciences”. Numerous case studies are investigated. Additional topics in the course include designing …

Muhlenberg County Heritage Volume 22, Number 3, Kentucky Library Research Collections

Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.
