Corporate Governance, Reputation And Competitive Credibility, N Balasubramanian, David Kimber

IIMB Management Review

The decade of the 1990s has perhaps seen the most profound changes in global economic structures. The effects of structural adjustment and globalisation, and the emergence of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have meant that the role of business has dramatically changed throughout the world. Statistics of the number of corporations that are larger than nation states abound and only illustrate the importance of the corporate sector and its impact on the world order

Vocabulary Growth In Late Talkers: Lexical Development From 2;0 To 3;0, Leslie Rescorla, Jennifer Mirak, Leher Singh Jun 2000

Vocabulary Growth In Late Talkers: Lexical Development From 2;0 To 3;0, Leslie Rescorla, Jennifer Mirak, Leher Singh

Psychology Faculty Research and Scholarship

Vocabulary growth from 2;0 to 3;0 was studied in 28 late talkers using expressive vocabulary inventories reported bimonthly on the Language Development Survey (LDS). Group milestones were 18 words at 2;0, 89 words at 2;6, and 195 words at 3;0. A sub-group of 11 children (Group I) showed a rapid vocabulary spurt between 2;2 and 2;8, reached the 150-180 word mark by 2;6, and attained the LDS ceiling of about 300 words by 2;10. In contrast, the 17 children in Group 2 still had a mean vocabulary of fewer than 30 words at 2;6, had less of a vocabulary spurt …

Apology And Organizations: Exploring An Example From Medical Practice, Jonathan R. Cohen Jun 2000

Apology And Organizations: Exploring An Example From Medical Practice, Jonathan R. Cohen

UF Law Faculty Publications

In this Article, I focus on injuries committed by members of organizations, such as corporations, and examine distinct issues raised by apology in the organizational setting. In particular, I consider: (i) the process of learning to prevent future errors; (ii) the divergent interests stemming from principal-agent tensions in employment, risk preferences and sources of insurance; (iii) the non-pecuniary benefits to corporate morale, productivity and reputation; (iv) the standing and scope of apologies; and (v) the articulation of policies toward injuries to others.

Innovation Or Illegitimacy: Remedial Receivership In Tinsley V. Kemp Public Housing Litigation, Carolyn Hoecker Luedtke

Missouri Law Review

Through an analysis of Tinsley v. Kemp,' a decade-long institutional reform case aimed at changing Kansas City, Missouri public housing, this Article engages in a case study focused on the receivership remedy in practice. Part I chronicles the decade of litigation and remedial results that turned around the troubled Kansas City Housing Authority ("Housing Authority"). Part II examines the efficacy and legitimacy of court displacement of government actors in the context of institutional reform litigation and compares receivership to other remedial alternatives. Part IMI concludes that while receivership has unique attributes, it is not a wholly extraordinary remedial measure. It …

Surgical Management Of Hepatic Metastatic Disease, Xavier Rogiers, Claus Brunken Jun 2000

Surgical Management Of Hepatic Metastatic Disease, Xavier Rogiers, Claus Brunken

Saudi Medical Journal

In Europe, liver metastases are the most common malignomas of the liver. The majority of metastases are due to colorectal cancer. Radical surgical resection, if possible, is the treatment of choice. Radical resection of metastases from wilms-tumor, carcinoids, carcinoma of the breast, hypernephroma, adrenal tumors, malignant melanoma, leiomyosarcoma and gastric cancer may improve long time survival, however knowledge is too small for giving general directions. Local destructive therapies are only beneficial when a total necrosis of the tumor is reached. Indications for this treatment are quite rare. Both, systemic and local chemotherapy offers only palliation with little influence on long …
