Interaction Of Mitochondrial Elongation Factor Tu With Aminoacyl-Trna And Elongation Factor Ts, Ying Chun Cai, James M. Bullard, Nancy L. Thompson, Linda L. Spremulli

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences (Formerly Dept. of Chemistry)

Elongation factor (EF) Tu promotes the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA (aa-tRNA) to the acceptor site of the ribosome. This process requires the formation of a ternary complex (EF-Tu·GTP·aa-tRNA). EF-Tu is released from the ribosome as an EF-Tu·GDP complex. Exchange of GDP for GTP is carried out through the formation of a complex with EF-Ts (EF-Tu·Ts). Mammalian mitochondrial EF-Tu (EF-Tumt) differs from the corresponding prokaryotic factors in having a much lower affinity for guanine nucleotides. To further understand the EF-Tumt subcycle, the dissociation constants for the release of aa-tRNA from the ternary complex (K tRNA) and for …

Models For Integrating And Managing Acute And Long-Term Care Services In Rural Areas [Working Paper], Andrew F. Coburn Phd

Long Term Services and Supports

Post-acute and long term care services for older persons and persons with serious disabilities are responsible for an ever-larger share of the costs of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The need to control demand and expenditures has led states and the federal government to seek new managed care strategies, such as capitated financing and coordinated case management, that integrate the financing and delivery of primary care, acute and long term care services. Integration and managed care are viewed as encouraging a substitution of less costly and more appropriate home and community-based services for high cost medical and long term care …
