Review Of Parasites Of North American Freshwater Fishes, Second Edition, Wilmer A. Rodgers
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
In this second edition, the author uses the traditional better-known taxonomy, although a table listing the contemporary (or future) classification is presented in the foreword. The beginning of the book covers the public health aspects of fish parasites, and discusses methods of examining and collecting fish, and then preserving and making permanent preparations. These sections will be very helpful to students and researchers, as are the sections that list parasites by location in fish. The next sections present major groups of parasites and detailed genera and species. Drawings and photographs make identification relatively easy. An important addition to this second …

Contaminant Residue Analysis Of Fish Tissues From Marais Des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge - Kansas, John F. Miesner
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) was added to the National Wildlife Refuge system in 1992. The Refuge occupies approximately 2,550 ha of bottomland hardwoods habitats along the Marais des Cygnes River in Linn County, Kansas.
During public involvement in acquisition planning, the Service committed to opening the Refuge to recreational fishing. There are several water bodies on the Refuge which would provide recreational fishing opportunities. These include abandoned coal strip mines, small man-made farm ponds, and the Marais des Cygnes River and several tributaries to the river. Fish have been established in the coal mine and farm ponds …

Effects To Listed Species From Operations Of The Federal Columbia River Power System
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has reviewed the biological assessment (BA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents dated December, 1999 submitted by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), Corps of Engineers (Corps), and the Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau) (also referred to as action agencies) regarding operations of the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS). The action agencies’ request for formal consultation was received in December, 1999. This document represents the Service’s biological opinion of the effects of the proposed action on two listed fish species: the endangered Kootenai River white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus); and the threatened …

Mourning Dove: Breeding Population Status, 2000, David D. Dolton, Graham W. Smith
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
This report includes Mourning Dove Call-count Survey information gathered over the last 35 years within the conterminous United States. Trends were calculated for the most recent 2- and 10-year intervals and for the entire 35-year period. Between 1999 and 2000, the average number of doves heard per route did not change significantly in the Eastern and Western Management Units. A significant decrease was detected in the Central Unit. Additionally, significant declines were indicated for doves heard over the 10 and 35-year periods in all 3 Units. In contrast, for doves seen, no trends were indicated over the 10- and 35-year …

Adolescent School Refusal In Japan : Implications For School Counselors, Noriko Ido
Adolescent School Refusal In Japan : Implications For School Counselors, Noriko Ido
Graduate Research Papers
Since its emergence in the late 1950s, school refusal has been identified as a severe problem related to schooling in Japan. Its etiology is complex; changes in social environment in Japan after World War II which affect everyone, familial factors such as parenting style, and school environmental factors are considered as critical factors which cause school refusal.
School counselors need to not only understand the background information of school refusal, but also identify early symptoms and intervene before students develop it. Coordination and consultation roles are especially important in dealing with this problem. Consultation with parents of school refusers is …

Objective To estimate the prevalence and distribution of impacted premolars in a group of New Zealand children aged 10 to 15 years and to report any associate findings. Materials and methods Panoramic radiographs of 1608 children aged 10 to 15 years were selected. All children had been registered as patients of the School of Dentistry, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand since 1969. The radiographs were taken on the same panoramic machine and examined by one experienced radiologist for the presence and location of the impacted premolars and any associate pathological changes. Results One hundred and sixty nine individuals (10.5%) …

A Comparison Of Transfer Efficiency Using The Laser Touch On Manual Spray Guns In The Manufacturing Industry, Omar G. Blanco
A Comparison Of Transfer Efficiency Using The Laser Touch On Manual Spray Guns In The Manufacturing Industry, Omar G. Blanco
Graduate Research Papers
This research was conducted to evaluate the performance of the Laser Touch™ targeting device once attached to a manual spray gun. It was perceived that this innovative tool increases the transfer efficiency of the spray process in painting and coating operations for the manufacturing industry. Also, it was theorized that the Laser Touch™ minimizes paint consumption and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the spray system and improves the finish quality of the sprayed parts. Therefore, these parameters were compared and analyzed to determine the benefits of the Laser Touch™.
An experimental study was designed involving one group which was pre-tested, …

Any professional counselor who works with children will eventually be presented with children who have lost a loved one due to death. It is important, therefore, for counselors to acquire basic knowledge about how children understand death, how children are affected when shielded from the facts about death, what the grieving process looks like for children, and whether a child's reactions to death is typical or whether it is a sign of more serious mental health problems.
A brief overview summarizing these factors is included in the first section of this paper. In the second section, the author will explore …

The author of this paper will address several factors and intervention strategies that have been identified as potential determinants of healthy adaptation in children in stepfamilies. Given the increasing prevalence of stepfamilies in this country, it is imperative that school counselors become knowledgeable in …

The Use Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation In The Gait Training Of Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Literature Review, Rachel Rolfson
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Cerebral palsy is a common developmental disorder that causes a wide array of problems in the population. The manifestations of cerebral palsy commonly interfere with the child's activities of daily living, including the important function of gait. It is therefore important that physical therapists be knowledgeable about the various treatment options used in gait training of children with cerebral palsy, as well as their effectiveness.
Neurodevelopmental techniques (NDT), neurosurgical interventions, and orthotics are just a few of the numerous treatment options available for the gait training of children with cerebral palsy. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) has recently become a popular …
