Joint Fire Science Program Synthesis Reports
This state-of-knowledge review about the effects of fire on flora and fuels can assist land managers with ecosystem and fire management planning and in their efforts to inform others about the ecological role of fire. Chapter topics include fire regime classification, autecological effects of fire, fire regime characteristics and postfire plant community developments in ecosystems throughout the United States and Canada, global climate change, ecological principles of fire regimes, and practical considerations for managing fire in an ecosytem context.
Use Of The Generalized Integral Transform Method For Solving Equations Of Solute Transport In Porous Media, Chongxuan Liu, Jim E. Szecsody, John M. Zachara, William P. Ball
Use Of The Generalized Integral Transform Method For Solving Equations Of Solute Transport In Porous Media, Chongxuan Liu, Jim E. Szecsody, John M. Zachara, William P. Ball
United States Department of Energy: Publications
The generalized integral transform technique (GITT) is applied to solve the one-dimensional advection-dispersion equation (ADE) in heterogeneous porous media coupled with either linear or nonlinear sorption and decay. When both sorption and decay are linear, analytical solutions are obtained using the GITT for one-dimensional ADEs with spatially and temporally variable flow and dispersion coefficient and arbitrary initial and boundary conditions. When either sorption or decay is nonlinear the solutions to ADEs with the GITT are hybrid analytical-numerical. In both linear and nonlinear cases, the forward and inverse integral transforms for the problems described in the paper are apparent and straightforward. …
Spatial Decision Support System For Abandoned Coal Mine Reclamation., Qian Liu
Spatial Decision Support System For Abandoned Coal Mine Reclamation., Qian Liu
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abandoned coal mines and mining activities typically cause severe environmental problems related to erosion and pollutant transportation.Because of the lack of data integration, traditional methods and procedures of reclamation plan design must go through a time-consuming process. As new technologies from a variety of fields have been revolutionizing the way in which planning is conducted,it is practical to find a more efficient approach to deal with complex reclamation planning. In this research,a Geographic Information System(GIS),remotely sensed data, erosion modeling, and Multi-Criteria Decision Making(MCDM)methods were integrated to implement a Spatial Decision Support System(SDSS)for better reclamation planning. The newly developed Open Development Environment(ODE)and GIS componentware technology were adopted …
Limits To Ice Thickness In Iowa During The Late Wisconsinan, Eric C. Brevik
Limits To Ice Thickness In Iowa During The Late Wisconsinan, Eric C. Brevik
Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS
Minimum and maximum limits to Des Moines Lobe ice thickness in Iowa during the Late Wisconsinan glaciation are calculated. These limits are based on minimum and maximum ice thickness calculations for the Des Moines Lobe in eastern North Dakota using crustal depression indicated by Lake Agassiz strandlines. Minimum and maximum basal shear stresses for the Des Moines Lobe are calculated by projecting a flow line from the terminus of the Des Moines Lobe back up-ice to the study site in northeastern North Dakota. Ice thickness in Iowa is then calculated with a method that uses the basal shear stress values. …

Personal Philosophical Perspective On Educational Leadership For Secondary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Deborah L. Padomek
Personal Philosophical Perspective On Educational Leadership For Secondary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Deborah L. Padomek
Graduate Research Papers
Every child deserves the best possible education we can provide them. Burdick, Pond, & Yamamoto (1994) found that too many persons leave our educational system at both the secondary and collegiate levels unequipped with the vocational skills, the self-understanding and career decision-making skills, or the work attitudes that are essential for making a successful transition from school to work. It is important to teach students skills necessary for future employment, and also teach them the importance of being critical thinkers and applying previous learning.
