How Accurate Are Confidence Intervals For Impulse Responses In Large Var Models?, Lutz Kilian, Pao-Li Chang
Research Collection School Of Economics
We study the finite-sample accuracy and average length of pointwise confidence intervals for impulse responses in vector autoregressive models with many variables and many lags. Our results complement existing simulation evidence based on much simpler bivariate models.
Employment-Based Health Insurance In New Mexico: An Analysis Of The 2000 Health Policy Commission Statewide Employer Survey Of Health Insurance, Lee A. Reynis, Dolores Busch-Demarcus, Tony Sylvester
Employment-Based Health Insurance In New Mexico: An Analysis Of The 2000 Health Policy Commission Statewide Employer Survey Of Health Insurance, Lee A. Reynis, Dolores Busch-Demarcus, Tony Sylvester
BBER Publications
This report presents and analyzes the results of the 2000 Health Policy Commission Statewide Employer Survey. A statewide telephone survey of New Mexico businesses was conducted by the Gilmore Research Group, and a mail-out survey of New Mexico public sector employers was conducted by BBER. The surveys were designed to collect information on employer characteristics, employee benefits, health insurance plans with the largest enrollment, and recent changes in employee health insurance plans and programs. In addition, the private sector survey gathered employers opinions, including policy preferences and factors for employee insurance availability. Illustrated with tables. Appendices include the survey methodology, …
The World Trade Constitution, John O. Mcginnis, Mark L. Movsesian
The World Trade Constitution, John O. Mcginnis, Mark L. Movsesian
Articles
Conventional wisdom holds that the World Trade Organization (WTO) necessarily poses a threat to sovereignty and representative government within its member nations. Professors McGinnis and Movsesian refute this view. They argue that the WTO can be understood as a constitutive structure that, by reducing the power of protectionist interest groups, can simultaneously promote international trade and domestic democracy. Indeed, in promoting both free trade and accountable government, the WTO reflects many of the insights that inform our own Madisonian Constitution. Professors McGinnis and Movsesian reject recent proposals to grant the WTO regulatory authority, endorsing instead the WTO's limited adjudicative power …

Evolutionary Psychology, Meet Developmental Neurobiology: Against Promiscuous Modularity, David J. Buller, Valerie Gray Hardcastle
Faculty Articles, Papers, and Other Scholarship
Evolutionary psychologists claim that the mind contains “hundreds or thousands” of “genetically specified” modules, which are evolutionary adaptations for their cognitive functions. We argue that, while the adult human mind/brain typically contains a degree of modularization, its “modules” are neither genetically specified nor evolutionary adaptations. Rather, they result from the brain's developmental plasticity, which allows environmental task demands a large role in shaping the brain's information-processing structures. The brain's developmental plasticity is our fundamental psychological adaptation, and the “modules” that result from it are adaptive responses to local conditions, not past evolutionary environments. If different individuals share common environments, however, …
The Biblical Approach To Church Growth Through Personal Evangelism, Ho Kyung Kim
The Biblical Approach To Church Growth Through Personal Evangelism, Ho Kyung Kim
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The greatest commandment of the Lord is preaching the gospel all over the world. It is the duty of all Christians to preach the gospel to the world. If we are negligent about it, we may lose God's blessings. When we study the way Jesus preached the gospel, we see that He personally met people individually and called them to become His disciples. Those who met Jesus personally became evangelists themselves, proclaimed God's Word, and expanded the church. Jesus built the church so that it would do His work after He left this earth. Therefore, it is the mission of …

School District Enrollment Forecast Reports
This report provides a school Enrollment Forecast, including demographic information, for Portland Public Schools. The report considers several factors that are likely to affect the school district's enrollments between the present and 2010, including the future number of births, net migrants, and the proportion of school-age children and youth enrolled in the public schools. This is the second report that forecasts future enrollments for the Portland Public Schools. The first report (dated July 2000) was based on October 1999 enrollments; this report relies on October 2000 enrollments. To take into account a variety of demographic and enrollment possibilities, this report …
Covalidation Of Dissimilarly Structured Models, Samuel A. Wright
Covalidation Of Dissimilarly Structured Models, Samuel A. Wright
Theses and Dissertations
A methodology is presented which allows comparison between models constructed under different modeling paradigms. Consider the following situation: Two models are constructed to study different aspects of the same system. One model simulates a fleet of aircraft moving a given combination of cargo and passengers from an onload point to an offload point. A second model is a linear programming model that optimizes the aircraft and route selection required for the same scenario. We develop a methodology to structure the comparison between large-scale models such as these. Models that compare favorably using this methodology are deemed covalid. Models that perform …
Computer-Based Methods For Constructing Two-Level Fractional-Factorial Experimental Designs With A Requirement Set, Steven L. Forsythe
Computer-Based Methods For Constructing Two-Level Fractional-Factorial Experimental Designs With A Requirement Set, Steven L. Forsythe
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation developed four methodologies for computer-aided experimental design of two-level fractional factorial designs with requirement sets (DOE/RS). The requirement sets identify all the experimental factors and the appropriate interaction terms to be evaluated in the experiment. Taguchi graphs and similar manual methods provide techniques for solving the DOE/RS problem. Unfortunately, these methods are limited because they become difficult to use as the number of factors or interaction terms exceeds ten. This research showed that the DOE/RS problem belongs to a class of difficult-to-solve problems known as NP-Complete. It is the combinatorial nature of NP-Complete problems that causes them to …

The Good News Club v. Milford Central School
On Writ Of Certiorari To The United States Court Of Appeals For The Second Circuit
From the Summary of the Argument
The parties agree that Milford's Community Use Policy creates a limited public forum. See, e.g., Pet. A13 ("We think it clear that the Community Use Policy has created a limited public forum in the Milford school facilities."). And the parties agree that any content restrictions in such fora must be "viewpoint neutral" and constitutionally "reasonable." Pet. A14 & n.8 ("If the Club's use is not a 'religious use' but …
