On Displacement Methods In Planar Anisotropic Elasticity, Xin Lin Gao, Robert E. Rowlands Sep 2000

On Displacement Methods In Planar Anisotropic Elasticity, Xin Lin Gao, Robert E. Rowlands

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

Two displacement formulation methods are presented for problems of planar anisotropic elasticity. The first displacement method is based on solving the two governing partial differential equations simultaneously/ This method is a recapitulation of the orignal work of Eshelby, Read and Shockley [7] on generalized plane deformations of anisotropic elastic materials in the context of planar anisotropic elasticity. The second displacement method is based on solving the two governing equations separately. This formulation introduces a displacement function, which satisfies a fourth-order partial differential equation that is identical in the form to the one given by Lekhnitskii [6] for monoclinic materials using …

Employee Commitment: An Overview, Gbolahan Gbadamosi Sep 2000

Employee Commitment: An Overview, Gbolahan Gbadamosi

IIMB Management Review

Organisational commitment continues to be a topical issue in management research and of great relevance to the practising manager. The commitment of employees is obviously an area of interest in human resources management, the assumption being that employee commitment enhances performance and organisational effectiveness. Research findings and literature on organisational commitment provide some pointers and lessons for human resource managers, which would be well worth examining.

Playing It Straight, Ganesh Sherman

IIMB Management Review

Part of being a good manager is being aware of the moral dimensions of one's role in the network and in the organisation. Managers can unwittingly engage in a wide range of role-related acts that are ethically questionable.

Regulation Of Sup Expression Identifies Multiple Regulators Involved In Arabidopsis Floral Meristem Development, Hajime Sakai, Beth A. Krizek, Steven E. Jacobsen, Elliot M. Meyerowitz Sep 2000

Regulation Of Sup Expression Identifies Multiple Regulators Involved In Arabidopsis Floral Meristem Development, Hajime Sakai, Beth A. Krizek, Steven E. Jacobsen, Elliot M. Meyerowitz

Faculty Publications

During the course of flower development, floral homeotic genes are expressed in defined concentric regions of floral meristems called whorls. The SUPERMAN ( SUP, also called FLO10 ) gene, which encodes a C2H2-type zinc finger protein, is involved in maintenance of the stamen/carpel whorl boundary (the boundary between whorl 3 and whorl 4) in Arabidopsis. Here, we show that the regulation of SUP expression in floral meristems is complex, consisting of two distinct phases, initiation and maintenance. The floral meristem identity gene LEAFY ( LFY ) plays a role in the initiation phase through at least two pathways, which …

A Modified Grouped-Tag Tdma Access Protocol For Radio Frequency Identification Networks, Nicos Pastos, R. Viswanathan Sep 2000

A Modified Grouped-Tag Tdma Access Protocol For Radio Frequency Identification Networks, Nicos Pastos, R. Viswanathan

Conference Proceedings

In this paper we describe a new medium access protocol termed as the modified grouped-tag TDMA protocol (MGTDMA) for networking radio frequency identification tags. It is known that the previously proposed grouped-tag TDMA (GTDMA) protocol performs very well under the conditions of uniform destination distribution and not so well for heterogeneous traffic conditions. The MGTDMA differs from GTDMA in the sense that MGTDMA allows groups experiencing high traffic to steal (cooperatively) from low traffic groups at regular time intervals. Performance of an access scheme is assessed in terms of average packet delay and average energy consumption. Approximate analytical equation for …

The Use Of Edi And Internet Technologies In The U.S. Motor Carrier Industry, Richard L. Clarke Sep 2000

The Use Of Edi And Internet Technologies In The U.S. Motor Carrier Industry, Richard L. Clarke

Journal of Transportation Management

Computer to computer data exchange by companies in a supply chain have been wellrecognized as an effective means of reducing cost and decreasing paperwork errors. In many cases, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers have become electronically linked to better manage inventory, ordering, and billing information. However, supply chains, by definition, also include common carriers that move goods between supply chain partners but may not have a long-term relationship with either the shipper or his customers. This could be the missing or weak link in an otherwise effective supply chain. The purpose of this paper is to examine the state-of-the-art of EDI …
