Can International Law Help? An Analysis Of The Colombian Peace Process, Jorge L. Esquirol Oct 2000

Can International Law Help? An Analysis Of The Colombian Peace Process, Jorge L. Esquirol

Connecticut Journal of International Law

In recent months, the guerrilla war in Colombia has dramatically entered the world stage. While Colombian governments for decades resisted the internationalization of the internal conflict, they are now lobbying for U.S. and European financial support, accepting bi-lateral conditions, and invoking international norms. This approach offers new possibilities for resolving the forty year conflict. Upon closer analysis, it could also prolong it. By internationalization, here, is not meant the mandatory application of the laws of interstate war nor the recognition of fights to self-determination. It refers to attempts to manage, and potentially resolve, the internal conflict through international legal formulas, …

Trust is an emotion developed over time. Trust is an inner belief, or confidence, that a person, entity, object, or circumstance will act in accordance with one's personal, pre-determined expectations. In communication, we all have an inherent trust that our intended message will be perceived as intended. When there is a misinterpretation, misunderstandmg occurs and communication breakdown results, trust is then lost to a certain degree. Law enforcement is a complex element of our society; there is a necessity for continual clarification of contemporary issues to avoid miscommunication. Law enforcement is a high profile public entity. By it's very nature …

Review: Using Technology To Promote Student Learning: Opportunities For Today And Tomorrow, Michael D. Coomes Oct 2000

Review: Using Technology To Promote Student Learning: Opportunities For Today And Tomorrow, Michael D. Coomes

Higher Education and Student Affairs Faculty Publications

Catherine McHugh Engstrom and Kevin Kruger’s book reveals how the widespread use of technology is reshaping the higher education and student affairs landscape. Just the arcana of the Internet leads one to conclude that, like Dorothy and Toto, “We’re not in Kansas anymore.” Concepts like structured query languages, intellectual property infringement, cybernars, technology clusters, computer use policies, MUDs (multi-user domains), MOOs (multi-user domains, objectoriented) and Mushes (multi-user shared hallucinations) require that student affairs educators reconsider their roles and purposes on the college campus.

Subjects were research volunteers at adjudicated and a non-adjudicated private high schools ranging in age from 14-18 years. The adjudicated group included 31 subjects, 15 male and 16 female, while the private school group included 21 subjects, 11 male and 10 female. A comparison of means using …
