The Sydney Games And Cathy Freeman Overshadow The Corruption And Distortion, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2000

The Sydney Games And Cathy Freeman Overshadow The Corruption And Distortion, Richard C. Crepeau

A nation stopped and gave its undivided attention as one of its citizens of aboriginal origin ran away from the field. The 110,000 fans in Olympic Stadium cheered wildly, thousands just outside the stadium watching on a large screen television did the same, and in downtown Sydney yet another large vocal crowd screamed in joy at the sight of Freeman's exquisite run. As if to underline …

Global Projects Prepare Wpi Students For The 21st Century, William W. Durgin, Donald N. Zwiep Oct 2000

Global Projects Prepare Wpi Students For The 21st Century, William W. Durgin, Donald N. Zwiep

Office of the Provost Scholarship

The WPI project based curriculum, which emphasizes discovery based learning are an alternative to the traditional information transfer process, has proved successful in delivering global engineering education. More than 25% of the learning process of the students is integrated into two formal projects, the Major Qualifying Project (MQP) which is designed as a capstone for professional technical competence and the Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP) which relates science and technology to societal concerns and student needs. Both the MQP and IQP may be completed on- or off-campus. Currently, over 50% of the graduating class will have completed one of the projects …

Arbitration & Judicial Review, Theodore J. St. Antoine

Law Quadrangle (formerly Law Quad Notes)

"Reading" a disputed contract is sine qua non for an arbitrator, and a great deal of care must accompany that reading, including the knowledge that the arbitration decision must be crafted in the shadow of potential judicial review.

The following essay was delivered as the Presidential Address at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the National Academy of Arbitrators in San Francisco in June 2000.

Perspectives In Gifted Education: Twice-Exceptional Children, Institute For The Development Of Gifted Education, Ricks Center For Gifted Children, University Of Denver, Norma Hafenstein, Frank Rainey, Susan Baum

Perspectives in Gifted Education

This is the second in a series of monographs funded by the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation through the Institute for the Development of Gifted Education at the University of Denver. The first monograph contained different perspectives on the growth and development of young gifted children. This monograph addresses the characteristics and needs of twice-exceptional students. These are students who are both gifted and have some type of disabling condition. These students constitute a major group of underserved gifted children as their gifts often mask their disabilities, or their disabilities mask their gifts.

Correlations Between Burrowing Owl And Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Declines: A 7-Year Analysis, Martha J. Desmond, Julie A. Savidge, Kent M. Eskridge

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Concern over the status of species associated with prairie dog colonies has increased with the recent proposed listing of black-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus). We monitored burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) populations and prairie dog densities in 17 black-tailed prairie dog colonies in the Nebraska panhandle between 1990 and 1996. All prairie dog colonies were controlled at least once during the study. We observed a 63% decline in nesting pairs of burrowing owls and significant declines in burrow densities. Results indicated a time lag in owl response to changes in active burrow densities. However, in the later …

The Web Magazine 2000, Fall, Matt Webber

The Web Magazine

The Web Magazine focuses on alumni news and campus events from Gardner-Webb College; now Gardner-Webb University. This issue's top story on plans and possibilities is given by former N.C. Superior Court Judge John M. Gardner in which he includes his opinions on law school, a new campus, and the NCAA Division 1. Former Pastor, Dr. Robert Canoy, takes on the role as Associate Dean of GWU. It is also important to recognize students and their experiences in life. In this issue a young man by the name of Donnie Thurman tells us about his near-death experience and the death of …
