Anti-Gag Cytolytic T Lymphocytes Specific For An Alternative Translational Reading Frame-Derived Epitope And Resistance Versus Susceptibility To Retrovirus-Induced Murine Aids In F1 Mice, Shawn-Marie Mayrand, Patricia A. Healy, Bruce E. Torbett, William R. Green
Anti-Gag Cytolytic T Lymphocytes Specific For An Alternative Translational Reading Frame-Derived Epitope And Resistance Versus Susceptibility To Retrovirus-Induced Murine Aids In F1 Mice, Shawn-Marie Mayrand, Patricia A. Healy, Bruce E. Torbett, William R. Green
Dartmouth Scholarship
Murine AIDS (MAIDS) develops in susceptible mouse strains after infection with the LP-BM5 murine leukemia virus complex that contains causative defective, and ecotropic helper, retroviruses. We previously demonstrated that the MAIDSresistant H-2d strains BALB/cByJ and C57BL/KsJ generate MHC class I (Kd ) restricted virus-specific CD81 cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTLs) that lyse cells expressing either defective or ecotropic gag proteins. In contrast, the congenic BALB.B and closely related C57BL/6J MAIDS-susceptible H-2b strains were unable to serve as a source of gag-specific CTLs (Schwarz and Green, 1994), suggesting that anti-gag CTLs might provide a basis for resistance to MAIDS. Although its susceptibility …

Captive Great Blue Heron Predation On Farmed Channel Catfish Fingerlings, James F. Glahn, Brian Dorr, Mark E. Tobin
Captive Great Blue Heron Predation On Farmed Channel Catfish Fingerlings, James F. Glahn, Brian Dorr, Mark E. Tobin
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
In a series of experiments, we examined feeding behavior of captive great blue herons Ardea herodius and estimated their ability to affect commercial production of fingerling channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus. Specifically, we determined the following: (1) the biomass of channel catfish fingerlings necessary to maintain the body mass of wild-caught captive great blue herons, (2) capture rates of captive great blue herons foraging on channel catfish fingerlings, (3) evaluation of the losses of catfish fingerlings to heron predation, and (4) the effects of selected catfish pond conditions on heron capture rates and body mass changes. Consistent with previous studies, …

Modern Parents And Postmodern Adolescents Conflicts And Solutions: A Theoretical Model, Benjamin R. Dobbeck
Modern Parents And Postmodern Adolescents Conflicts And Solutions: A Theoretical Model, Benjamin R. Dobbeck
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
The past 30 years has witnessed a dramatic shift in worldview from [he modern m the postmodern. This can be seen everyday in an, architecture, teaching, music- virtually any expressive medium and recent philosophy. The underpinnings for the postmodern shift in culture revolve around 1.hc Lack of absolutes, non-representative language, a new tolerance and diversity for different ideas and beliefs, and a belief that individuals create their own reality in the social context of community. The family is not immune to these culture shifts and is reflecting them in many ways. Parents of the modem era, the era defined by …

Dances Of Northern Ghana: Possibilities For Cross-Cultural Communication, Electa Behrens
African Diaspora ISPs
This study set up a system of examinig traditional dances to determine their potential as cross-cultural communicators. It looked at the dances of Baamaya and Tora of the Dagomba on four levels:cultural, aesthetic, artistic, and physical. The researcher studied with two teachers, one dancer and one drummer, learned the dances, made the custumes, performed them in a variety of situations, interviewed drummers, dancers, and observers and observed the dances in many contexts. The results showed that Dagomba dances have changed a lot over time to incorporate new audiences and functions of dance. Some changes are successful and others are not. Americans appreciate …
