How To Be An Effective Lobbyist: A Handbook, Yolette Cabrini Ross

Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this research project was to develop a handbook for novice lobbyists that will acquaint them with the art of lobbying as it applies to the state of New Jersey. The handbook examines the professional relationship that exists between legislators and lobbyists. An analysis of the behavior and practices of lobbyists as they interact with legislators was conducted along with the interacting roles the two professions play in the legislative process. A review of several sources of information such as political science literature, political journals, practitioner essays and several newspaper sources were conducted to supplement the research. …

Physiologic Tailoring Of Therapy For Resistant Hypertension: 20 Years' Experience With Stimulated Renin Profiling, J. D. Spence

Renin profiling to assist in management of hypertension was first proposed about 27 years ago. However, it is still not widely used, perhaps because it was initially emphasized for management of primary hypertension, which is usually relatively easy to manage. Our experience in more than 4000 patients with referral hypertension screened since 1977 suggests that this approach, which I call 'Physiologic Tailoring' of management, is particularly helpful in resistant hypertension, especialiy in cases of adrenocortical hypertension. Nonprofit Welfare-To-Work Programs: A Study Of The Programmatic Factors Related To Success For Single Tanf Women In Readiness Programs, Kathy Guidi

This research project was a qualitative study with data collected primarily through interviews with three constituencies of welfare-to-work job readiness programs: TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) clients, nonprofit agency staff, and Department of Human Services (DHS) CalWORKs Department employment specialists. Specifically, six TANF clients, six nonprofit agency staff, and two DHS CalWORKs Department employment specialists were interviewed by the researcher. The study was conducted to determine which programmatic factors were related to success for single T ANF women participating in nonprofit organizations' work readiness programs in San Francisco. A model1'2 which describes the transfer of irradiant light in water is used to predict the fluorescence response ofthe water surface reflectance under solar induced or an artificial light source such as a laser. Formulations for the estimation of wavelength dependent fluorescent coefficients. The techniques allows the description ofa fluorescence reflectance response in deep and shallow waters with various bottom reflectance signatures such as submerged vegetation, corals and sand. Recent advances in the model are presented for obtaining wavelength dependent fluorescence spectrum responses from the solutions of the two flow equations following the procedures developed by Bostater1'2'3. The purpose of this study was to identify ADN faculty and ADN student perceptions of the most effective clinical teaching characteristics (ECTC). An exploratory, descriptive design was implemented. ADN faculty and ADN students were surveyed using the Clinical Teacher Characteristics Instrument (CTCI). The CTCI consists of 20 characteristics of clinical teachers that are ranked on a five point Likert-type scale according to importance. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Significant differences in perceptions of the most ECTC between the two groups were identified by a Mann Whitney U procedure. A t-test was performed to identify differences of perceptions …
