Evaluation Of Various Protein Sources For Growingand Finishing Awssi Lambs, A. Y. Abdullah, M. M. Muwalla, M. Y. Harb

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Sixty four newly weaned Awassi lambs (initial BW = 21.0 ± 0.75 kg) from both sexes were randomly allocated to one of the four treatments (8 males & 8 females/treatment) and grouped into 8 pens with 8 lambs from each sex per pen. They were then used to evaluate the different sources of protein on a finishing performance trial. The lambs were fed for a period of 114 days using four different rations. These rations were so formulated as to contain the same percentage of crude protein 14 %, but from different sources namely sunflower seed meal (SSM), bitter vetch …

One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn Jan 1999

One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn

Theses

The Library of Congress lists over eighty books that deal exclusively with Tennessee Williams. A vast number of these books cover anecdotal information about Tennessee's personal life, experiences, and relationships through his emotionally turbulent life. A great deal of biographical material presents conflicting accounts and many authors claim to have " the real story'' on Tennessee's life and loves.

If the reader is interested in titillating tidbits on Tennessee, this is not the paper to read. However, Mr. Tennessee Williams wrote from bis heart and his life experiences. Because of this, attention needs to be paid to how he drew …

Crisis Communication Response For Field Offices Of The Airline Pilots Association, Gina L. Butikofer Jan 1999

Crisis Communication Response For Field Offices Of The Airline Pilots Association, Gina L. Butikofer

Theses

This project-based thesis examines the issue of crisis management, focusing on communication as an integral part of an organization's response to crisis. It explores the benefits of a crisis communication plan to successfully respond to a crisis situation and explores the components, writing style and considerations of a manual that make such a plan useable. This research highlights these communication challenges in relation to the airline industry, and more specifically, to the branch offices of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), by applying the information gathered into a written crisis communication manual.

Chapter one of this thesis discusses the importance …

The Relationship Between Working Status Of Mothers And Parental-Child Attachment, Sherri Denise Brown Jan 1999

The Relationship Between Working Status Of Mothers And Parental-Child Attachment, Sherri Denise Brown

Theses

The factors which influence the development of attachment between mothers and children were examined in this study. The researcher specifically looked at the differences in attachment with regard to the mother's work status during infancy. Thirty-five adolescent subjects completed the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment test (lPPA). The subjects were categorized into four groups based on what their mothers' work status was during their infancy. The information regarding work status was obtained through a demographic sheet completed by the parents of the subjects.

The test completed by the subjects consisted of twenty-five statements regarding a relationship with their mother. …

Using Conventional Wireline Logs To Generate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Mri) Logs: A Feasibility Study., Mark Robert Richardson Jan 1999

Using Conventional Wireline Logs To Generate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Mri) Logs: A Feasibility Study., Mark Robert Richardson

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is used in logging to provide the log analyst an additional tool in establishing reservoir characteristics. Magnetic Resonance Imaging Logging (MRIL) provides information on the Free Fluid, Irreducible Fluid, Total Porosity, Effective Porosity, and Permeability that is far more accurate than Conventional Wireline Log interpretation, enabling better completion practices that will further enhance total recovery. What this feasibility study seeks to show is that by using Neural Networks, it is possible to generate synthetic MRI Logs using conventional Wireline Log data. This study also demonstrates that this practice is possible in different reservoirs having entirely different …

The Effect Of The Electrode Composition On Electron Transfer Through An Electroactive Monolayer., Kwansik Yoon Jan 1999

The Effect Of The Electrode Composition On Electron Transfer Through An Electroactive Monolayer., Kwansik Yoon

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This thesis describes the development of methods for determining the rate constants between a single type of an electroactive self-assembled monolayer on four metals: Au, Pt, Ag, and Hg. Marcus density-of-states theory predicts that the standard rate constant is proportional to the density of states (DOS) of the metal. The DOS increases by a factor of ten for the four metals above. Tafel plots are obtained from which the standard rate constant and the reorganization energy are extracted. Within experimental uncertainty, the standard rate constant is the same on Au, Pt, and Ag. Surprisingly, the reorganization energy is half as …

The Impact Of The Internet On Democratic Discourse, Dalia K. Hamed Jan 1999

The Impact Of The Internet On Democratic Discourse, Dalia K. Hamed

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The Internet has demonstrated the ability to empower its users by giving them more accurate information about matters of political, professional, and organizational concerns. While many believe that the Internet will fundamentally change political discourse, others argue that it is just another communications tool among many that may affect how governments function, but it will not affect democratic discourse. The thesis argues that unless some requirements are met, the Internet potential as a new democratic forum will not be fulfilled. Concepts such as freedom of speech, democracy, and democratic communication are essential to analyzing the potential use of the Internet …

Technology, Professional Practice, And Ethics: Survey Findings And Implications, Mark R. Mcminn, Trey Buchanan, Brent M. Ellens, Molly K. Ryan Jan 1999

Technology, Professional Practice, And Ethics: Survey Findings And Implications, Mark R. Mcminn, Trey Buchanan, Brent M. Ellens, Molly K. Ryan

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

If a psychologist loses treatment records because of a computer failure, is it an ethical violation? The widespread growth of technology has outpaced the development of ethical standards for questions such as this, resulting in areas of uncertainty for psychologists. Four hundred twenty psychologists in independent practice rated the ethicality and their frequency of using 40 technologies. Technologies pertaining to the support functions of a psychologist's office are commonly used, but those technologies directly affecting clinical services are rarely used. More than half of the 40 items received equivocal ratings on ethicality, suggesting psychologists need guidelines and training for the …

Values Affecting Collaboration Among Psychologists And Evangelical Clergy, Timothy P. Chaddock, Mark R. Mcminn Jan 1999

Values Affecting Collaboration Among Psychologists And Evangelical Clergy, Timothy P. Chaddock, Mark R. Mcminn

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Previous research has shown that shared values are important to both clergy and psychologists when considering the possibility of collaborating with one another, but it is not clear which values must be shared. Eighty-one psychologists and 56 evangelical Protestant clergy were surveyed using a values questionnaire developed by Jensen and Bergin (1988) with some additional items specifically pertaining to evangelical beliefs, revealing differences within value themes between clergy and psychologists. The epistemological foundations of the two professions create obstacles to collaboration, suggesting a need for psychologists to develop trusting relationships with clergy, engage in specialized training, and reevaluate the post-modern …

Examples Of Collaboration Between Psychologists And Clergy, Laura C. Edwards, Brian R. K. B. Lim, Mark R. Mcminn, Amy W. Dominguez

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Some psychologists may be interested in working collaboratively with clergy and yet may not know where to start. What kinds of collaborative projects are possible? A qualitative analysis of 77 narratives offered by psychologists and clergy involved in collaboration revealed that collaboration between psychologists and clergy currently takes place in at least four contexts: mental health services, parish life, community concerns, and academics. Reported obstacles to collaboration are also described. Essential attitudes for psychologists interested in collaborating with clergy include respecting clergy as professionals, willingness to venture out from traditional professional settings, and exploring innovative collaborative possibilities.

Family Interaction Styles Of Children With Depressive Disorders, Schizophrenia-Spectrum Disorders, And Normal Controls, Elizabeth Hamilton, Joan Asarnow, Martha Tompson Jan 1999

Family Interaction Styles Of Children With Depressive Disorders, Schizophrenia-Spectrum Disorders, And Normal Controls, Elizabeth Hamilton, Joan Asarnow, Martha Tompson

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Family interaction processes during a problem-solving task were examined in children with depressive disorders, children with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and a normal control group of community children screened for the absence of psychiatric disorder. Major findings were: a) children with depressive disorders were more likely than children with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and children with no psychiatric disorder to direct guilt-inducing comments toward their parents; and b) parents of children with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders were more likely to direct harsh critical comments toward the child than were parents of depressed children or parents of normal controls. In addition, children's and mothers' use of benign …

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Using a multimodal and multi-informant method for diagnosis, we selected 33 children by teacher and parent nomination for attention and work completion problems that met DSM-IV criteria for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Of the 33 children in this group, 21 participated in the initial intervention, and 12 were placed in an ADHD control group and received the intervention after pre- and post-testing. A similarly selected group of 21 children without difficulties in attention and work completion served as a control group. Each child was assessed on pre- and posttest measures of visual and auditory attention. After an 18-week intervention period that …

Half-Wracked Prejudice Leaped Forth: Sanism, Pretextuality, And Why And How Mental Disability Law Developed As It Did, Michael L. Perlin Jan 1999

Half-Wracked Prejudice Leaped Forth: Sanism, Pretextuality, And Why And How Mental Disability Law Developed As It Did, Michael L. Perlin

Articles & Chapters

Mental disability law jurisprudence is often incoherent Much of its incoherence can be explained by two concepts that dominate this area of the law: sanism (the irrational prejudices that cause, and are reflected in, prevailing social attitudes toward mentally disabled persons, and those so perceived) and pretextuality (the courts' acceptance -- either implicit or explicit -- of testimonial dishonesty and their decisions to engage in dishonest decisionmaking in mental disability law cases). Mental disability law is frequently premised on stereotypes and on prejudice, on typification and fear. These distortions reflect sanism; cases that sanction the use of such stereotypes and …

It takes a special breed to have the understanding, compassion

and dedication to do what criminal defense lawyers do .... As

for public defenders - they are doing God's work. If Christ had

been a lawyer, he would have been a public defender.

Virtually all public defenders fight a daily battle against burnout

and the creeping erosion of confidence that inevitably accompany

defending acts we cannot condone and protecting those who are

the source of so much harm and grief. . . . Whether the process

unfolds subtly or suddenly, all defenders must confront the disturbing

consequences of their zealous …

Ii Prodotto Di Marca E Ii Suo Mercato Derivato, Rudolph J.R. Peritz

Articles & Chapters

The essay describes the most meaningful recent decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States and of lower courts on single brand aftermarkets for replacement parts and services, putting into historical context the market economics that inspires current antitrust jurisprudence. Particularly, it shows that the .post-classical approach has never entirely superceded neo-classical doctrines. Rather, several shifting tides of theory have swept, and still sweep, over the domain of antitrust doctrine influencing the debate unevenly.
