A Study Of The Unemployment Issue In China., Kebin Wu Jan 1999

A Study Of The Unemployment Issue In China., Kebin Wu

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

China is currently facing the highest unemployment rate experienced since 1978. It is one of the main issues affecting social stability now. The Chinese official documents interpret “laid off” in an idiosyncratic way, which is different from the common sense of unemployment. Thus, the reported unemployment rate does not reflect the actual unemployment condition, i.e. the reported unemployment rate in China is below 3.3% this year, which is far from the reality. To get a more accurate picture of the unemployment condition in China, data adjustment is used in this paper. This study performs a factor analysis to examine the …

The Myth Of Choice Of Law: Rethinking Conflicts, Kermit Roosevelt Iii Jan 1999

The Myth Of Choice Of Law: Rethinking Conflicts, Kermit Roosevelt Iii

Michigan Law Review

Choice of law is a mess. That much has become a truism. It is a "dismal swamp," a morass of confusion, a body of doctrine "killed by a realism intended to save it," and now "universally said to be a disaster." One way to demonstrate its tribulations would be to look at the academic dissensus and the hopelessly underdeterminative Restatement (Second) of Conflict of Laws. Another would be to examine the Supreme Court's abdication of the task of articulating constitutional constraints on state choice-of-law rules. This article will do both. At the outset, though, I want to suggest that one …

Programming Wizards: Generating Syntax-Free Conceptual Editors., Windell Hansford Goff Ii Jan 1999

Programming Wizards: Generating Syntax-Free Conceptual Editors., Windell Hansford Goff Ii

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The objective of this project is to develop a generator for a class of syntax-free conceptual editors called "programming wizards". These editors provide a model of software that is especially suitable for novice software developers, freeing them from intricate syntactic details. The effectiveness of these editors is demonstrated by showing how they ease learning of component-based software engineering principles in introductory computer science classrooms. The notion of programming wizard generation is expected to be generally applicable for teaching other principles without the intrusiveness of particular specification / programming syntax.

Rural Women And Economic Survival Strategies In The Former Bantustans: A Case Study From The Northwest Province, South Africa., Amy Danielle Pratt Jan 1999

Rural Women And Economic Survival Strategies In The Former Bantustans: A Case Study From The Northwest Province, South Africa., Amy Danielle Pratt

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This research examines the role of gender in African women’s economic co-operatives in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The theoretical frameworks of feminist geography and gender and development reveal the interconnections between issues of women, work, and rural economic development. Background information is presented to illustrate the complexities of rural African women’s economic exclusion under apartheid and today, and a case study approach is utilized to reveal the development and viability of two particular economic co-operatives. Issues concerning the organization, membership, production, and markets of the two co operatives are discussed, as well as the relationship between the co-operatives …

A total of 610 health projects, valued at $1.6 billion, were identified. …
