The Perspectives Of Care And Justice And Their Influence On Clinician Conceptualization Of Client Anger., Dona Corcoran Zanotti Dec 1999

The Perspectives Of Care And Justice And Their Influence On Clinician Conceptualization Of Client Anger., Dona Corcoran Zanotti

Theses and Dissertations

Anger is a dominant, but under-researched, emotion in our society. Mental health providers devote a considerable portion of their time to helping clients deal with anger. However, neither they nor researchers are able to say what treatment is most efficacious or for whom. Gender, age, and culture are all involved in the experience and expression of anger and how anger manifests itself differently among individuals, and possibly in how anger is interpreted by mental health providers. One way to better understand client anger and clinician's conceptualization of that anger is through the examination of anger narratives. This study examined anger …

Grounded Theory On How Instructional Assessments Inform Policy On Undergraduate Learning And Skill Development., Deborah Marie Suzzane Dec 1999

Grounded Theory On How Instructional Assessments Inform Policy On Undergraduate Learning And Skill Development., Deborah Marie Suzzane

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose was to produce a grounded theory on how instructional assessments inform policy with an explanation of what undergraduates learn and can do. By 1989, higher education in the United States received a mandate from the accrediting agencies to assess in undergraduate education. The Secretary of Education demanded the mandate and associated accreditation with federal funding decisions. For Objective 1, a purposeful selection of 22 reported experiences from doctorate granting or masters' 1 comprehensive institutions in the north and central states was useful for producing the grounded theory. For Objective 2, a purposeful selection of two Midwest documents was …

A Research Guide And Cross-Reference To The "Reports Of The Royal Commission On Historical Manuscripts"., Thomas Martin Mulhern Dec 1999

A Research Guide And Cross-Reference To The "Reports Of The Royal Commission On Historical Manuscripts"., Thomas Martin Mulhern

Theses and Dissertations

The Reports of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts is a treasure trove of information that has been almost impossible to unlock since its initial publication. The indexing is rudimentary and there was no cross-reference between reports which makes researching time consuming and frustrating. The object of this project was to provide students, teachers, and researchers with a key to unlock the information in the collection. To do this each volume was examined for content and cross-referenced to other volumes with similar topics. This produced a central collection, Report #9, which encompassed the Elizabethan era, and twenty-two other collections cross-referenced …

A Comparative Analysis Of Interactive Multimedia And Instructor-Led Demonstration In Teaching Operation Of Networked Computers., David Nathaniel Yearwood Dec 1999

A Comparative Analysis Of Interactive Multimedia And Instructor-Led Demonstration In Teaching Operation Of Networked Computers., David Nathaniel Yearwood

Theses and Dissertations

This study examined the efficacy of utilizing a computer interactive multimedia module as a tool for increasing student understanding of network computers at UND-Lake Region. Ninety four incoming freshman students enrolled at UND-Lake Region for the 1998/1999 academic year participated in a study comparing two methods of instruction. The following research questions were designed to analyze students' attitudes and retention of training received: (1) Were there differences between the groups on the achievement factors related to computer usage? (2) Were there differences between the groups on the attitude factors related to computer usage? (3) Were there differences between groups on …

Isolation And Identification Of Proteoglycans In Human Glenohumeral Joint Capsule., Susan Jeno Dec 1999

Isolation And Identification Of Proteoglycans In Human Glenohumeral Joint Capsule., Susan Jeno

Theses and Dissertations

Characterization of the biochemical structure of cartilage and tendon has been a focus of research in recent decades, but little is known about joint capsules. Classified as dense irregular connective tissue, the extracellular matrix of joint capsules contains water, collagen, and non-collagenous macromolecules including proteoglycans (PGs), and glycoproteins, but specific biochemical composition of human glenohumeral joint capsule has not been elucidated. Structure and function are intimately related, therefore, understanding the structure of the capsule is essential to analysis of its function. The purpose of this research study was to isolate and characterize the PG content and relative proportion of each …

N-Acetyltransferase Genetic Polymorphisms And Breast Cancer Risk., Anne Carlson Deitz Dec 1999

N-Acetyltransferase Genetic Polymorphisms And Breast Cancer Risk., Anne Carlson Deitz

Theses and Dissertations

Aromatic and heterocyclic amine carcinogens found in cigarette smoke and well done meat require host-mediated metabolic activation before initiating tumors in target organs. The N-acetyltransferase isozymes, NAT1 and NAT2, catalyze the activation (O-acetylation) of aromatic and heterocyclic amines and also the deactivation (N-acetylation) of aromatic amines. Both NAT1 and NAT2 are subject to genetic polymorphisms. Using molecular epidemiological studies, in vitro studies in human mammary tissues, and a genetically defined rapid and slow acetylator congenic hamster model, we tested our hypothesis that rapid NAT1 and/or NAT2 acetylators are at an increased risk of breast cancer, especially those women exposed to …

Motion In Limine To Exclude Expert Testimony Of Gregg Mccrary, Terry H. Gilbert, George H. Carr Dec 1999

Motion In Limine To Exclude Expert Testimony Of Gregg Mccrary, Terry H. Gilbert, George H. Carr

1995-2002 Court Filings

The Estate of Sam Sheppard moved to exclude the testimony of Gregg McCrary from trial. McCrary was a retired FBI investigator whom the State anticipated would provide an opinion supporting its contention that Sam Sheppard murdered Marilyn. The motion attacks the former agent’s credentials by asserting that he is not an expert in any relevant field. It also argues that the methods McCrary used to draw his opinions on the case are not reliable.

See order denying this motion
