A Type Catalog Of Fossil Invertebrates (Mollusca: Actinoceratoidea, Bactritoidea, Endoceratoidea And Nautiloidea) In The Yale Peabody Museum, Russell D. White, Laura K. Skorina

Type material for 220 nominal species of fossil actinoceratoids, bactritoids, endoceratoids and nautiloids are in the Invertebrate Paleontology Collections of Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History. Primary types for 158 nominal species include 133 holotypes, 64 syntypes (representing 18 nominal species), one lectotype and two neotypes. Secondary types for 22 nominal species include 90 paratypes. Tertiary types of 98 nominal species include 159 hypotypes. Most types are from Coahuila (Mexico), Newfoundland, New York State and Quebec and have been described by R.H. Flower, A.F. Foerste, J. Hall and A.K. Miller.

Diet Of A Great Horned Owl (Bubo Virginianus) On A Small Coastal Connecticut Island, Jon A. Moore, Celia Lewis, Michael R. Anderson

We assessed the diet of a single great horned owl residing on a small coastal island in Long Island Sound by examining the contents of pellets and other materials found below roosts. This owl fed on an unusually broad array of prey items, especially birds, providing insight into the foraging strategies used.

A Type Catalog Of Fossil Invertebrates (Mollusca: Gastropoda) In The Yale Peabody Museum, Russell D. White, Brent H. Horstman, Karen E. Mcfadden, Laura K. Skorina

Type material for 373 nominal species of fossil gastropods is in the Invertebrate Paleontology Collections of Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History. Primary types for 193 nominal species include 164 holotypes, 191 syntypes (representing 29 nominal species) and 4 lectotypes. Secondary types for 79 nominal species include 228 paratypes (representing 75 nominal species) and 9 paralectotypes (representing 4 nominal species). Tertiary types of 172 nominal species include 1034 hypotypes. Most types are from St. Louis (Missouri), Chazy (New York), Zorritos (Peru) and Syria and have been described by T.D.A. Conrad, J. B. Knight, E.T. Nelson and P.E. Raymond.

As requested by Joe Martin of the National Park Service (NPS), Southeast Support Office, researchers from the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) conducted a building energy efficiency assessment for the ranger station on Horn Island, Mississippi. The assessment included audits and inspections of the energy systems, building thermal performance, appliances, and energy use patterns. FSEC researchers Stephen Barkaszi and John Harrison conducted the audits and on-site inspections June 29 and June 30, 1999. The purpose of the assessment was to evaluate the facility and to present recommendations for improving the energy efficiency of the building. This report summarizes the information …

FEES, TAXES. NEW DEFINITIONS, VOTE REQUIREMENTS. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Redefines as taxes any compulsory fees enacted by state or local government after July 1, 1999 to monitor, study or mitigate societal or economic effects of activity where such fees impose no regulatory obligation on the payor. Requires two-thirds vote of Legislature to approve such state fees; majority or two-thirds vote of local electorate for local fees. Excludes certain real property related fees and assessments, regulatory fees not exceeding cost of regulation, monies recoverable as damages, remedial expenses, penalties, and increases due to inflation or increased workload as specified. RESTRICTING APPLICATION OF THREE STRIKES LAW TO VIOLENT AND SERIOUS FELONIES. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Amends "Three Strikes" law to require mandatory increased sentences only when current conviction is for serious or violent felony such as rape, robbery or burglary. Provides that only prior convictions for serious or violent felonies will qualify for second and third "strike" sentence enhancements. Requires re-sentencing within 180 days of enactment for persons currently sentenced pursuant to "Three Strikes" law if offense for which they were sentenced or prior convictions used to increase their sentences do not qualify under this measure as serious or violent felonies. IDENTITY THEFT. DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT VICTIMS. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Provides that anyone who discloses personal information about victims of identity theft is guilty of a crime. Organizations that disclose personal information to felons resulting in identity theft are liable for damages. Requires organizations with financial information to develop procedures to prevent such disclosure. Organizations that disclose personal information to parties for direct marketing are required to inform victims of their legal rights and source of information. Allows identity theft victims to request nondisclosure of personal information to parties engaging in direct marketing. Requires state agency to issue model guidelines. …

Method And System For Gas Metal Arc Welding, Yuming Zhang, Liguo E

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Patents

An improved method of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is disclosed. The method includes utilizing a pulsed current having a variable waveform to ensure the detachment of one-droplet-per-pulse of current. During the welding process, the current is sufficient to produce a droplet at the end of a consumable electrode wire. After the droplet reaches a desired size, the current is lowered to induce an oscillation in the droplet. The current is then increased which, in combination with the momentum created by the oscillation, effects droplet detachment. The oscillation may be monitored by observing the arc voltage to determine a preferred …
