Methods: Fifty subjects, 25 experimental with Type I DM and 25 control, were recruited from the community. Sensory response was tested with Semmes-Weinstein Monofilaments, and the Berg Balance Measure to assess balance performance. The Pearson correlation and Multiple Regression were performed to study the relationship between DM and balance.

Results: Significance was established between age and 4.31 monofilament response score and the dependent variable, Berg Balance Score. The …

The Use Of Computer Animations In Teaching Science, Mo Aljaroudi Jan 1999

The Use Of Computer Animations In Teaching Science, Mo Aljaroudi

Graduate Research Papers

The primary purpose of this research paper is to investigate the effectiveness of computer animations in chemistry teaching. This is done by first defining what computer animation is and giving an historical background of its development, and then by describing levels of chemistry understanding, general and cognitive functions of animations, and exploring aspects that make animations and their applications effective in the context of chemistry teaching. Also, the paper describes how computer animations increase and enhance conceptual understanding, long-term retention, achievement, and attitudes toward subject matter. Implications are given for instructors to more effectively incorporate computer animations into their instructional …

Preserving The History Of Boston's Diversity, Nancy Richard, Joan D. Krizack Jan 1999

Preserving The History Of Boston's Diversity, Nancy Richard, Joan D. Krizack

Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists

These headlines appeared in Boston newspapers. The articles they introduce tell each story from the journalist's point of view. Mainstream institutions involved in the events-the courts, law enforcement, schools, and businesses--created records that provide additional information from a mainstream point of view. Individuals from the communities involved generally pass on their perspectives on the events by word of mouth. Occasionally, members of the community or the individuals who were present create oral or written sources in which to preserve their story. Unless mainstream …

The Design And Development Of A Model Program That Integrates Arts, Social Studies And The Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements For The Seventh Grade Students And Manson Secondary School, Kenneth L. Nelson Jan 1999

The Design And Development Of A Model Program That Integrates Arts, Social Studies And The Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements For The Seventh Grade Students And Manson Secondary School, Kenneth L. Nelson

All Graduate Projects

Relatively little research was encountered which attempted to measure the effectiveness of an integrated curriculum over a more traditional course of studies. The results that were articulated seemed to indicate that students in classrooms using an integrated curriculum approach did as well or better than students experiencing a more traditional approach. This was especially true in the area of conceptual understanding. The purpose of this project was to design and develop a model program that integrated Language Arts, Social Studies and the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements for the seventh grade students at Manson Secondary School.
