What Are The Main Boundaries For The Evangelical Church And How Can We Best Address Our Major Issues?, Elmer L. Towns Jan 1999

What Are The Main Boundaries For The Evangelical Church And How Can We Best Address Our Major Issues?, Elmer L. Towns

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The following question will give direction to this paper. How far into the study of secular leadership can the church go to determine biblical church leadership (the John Maxwell leadership question)? How far into marketing can the church go to determine methods of communicating the church message (the George Barna marketing question)? How far can the church go in stretching its Sunday gathering to accommodate unsaved clientele (the Bill Hybels seeker question)? How far can the church go in heeding intuitive authority apart from biblical revelation (the C. Peter Wagner New Apostolic question)? How far can the church go in …

Functional Characterization Of The Ccr4-Not Transcriptional Regulatory Complex, Vasudeo Badarinarayana Jan 1999

Functional Characterization Of The Ccr4-Not Transcriptional Regulatory Complex, Vasudeo Badarinarayana

Doctoral Dissertations

The CCR4-NOT transcriptional regulatory complex affects expression of a number of genes both positively and negatively. This study demonstrates that the CCR4-NOT complex functionally and physically interacts with TBP and TAFs. Firstly, mutations in CCR4, NOT4, and NOT5 suppressed the his4-912 delta insertion by a mechanism similar to that observed for the defective TBP allele spt15-122. This mechanism appeared to involve stabilization of TBP binding to a specific non-consensus TATA sequence, CATAAA, in the his4-912 delta element. Secondly, using modified HIS3 promoter derivatives containing specific mutations within the TATA sequence, it was found that the NOT proteins were general repressors …

The Extended Hybrid Model For Optical Phonon Confinement, C. R. Bennett, B. K. Ridley, N. A. Zakhleniuk, M. Babiker

Turkish Journal of Physics

The theory of optical phonons and their confinement in heterostructures is reviewed with analogies made to the theory of acoustic phonons. The dielectric continuum (DC) model is obtained when bulk dispersion is ignored and the hybrid model is found when dispersion is included. The issue of boundary conditions is investigated and the solutions are shown with comparisons made using electron-phonon scattering.

Welcome to the Wokalup Research Station Reunion.

The hint of having a Reunion was first mentioned two years ago and then again 12 months ago but as everyone knows, time flies past so quickly. With Wokalup about to have a change in direction and become part of the Education Department it was felt that it was a most appropriate time to have the long awaited Reunion whilst Wokalup Research Station was still part of Agriculture Western Australia or it just wouldn’t happen.

We had to rely on peoples’ memories to collate an invitation list so if anyone was overlooked please …

Recognizing Actuarial Assumptions, Victoria Stachowski, Alice Underwood Jan 1999

Recognizing Actuarial Assumptions, Victoria Stachowski, Alice Underwood

Journal of Actuarial Practice (1993–2006)

As assumptions underlie every aspect of actuarial calculations, actuaries must be aware of the assumptions they are using and understand their importance and the possible effects of changing assumptions on the results of their calculations. This paper explores the nature of assumptions in: (i) mathematical models, (ii) data selection, (iii) actuarial methods, and (iv) the business environment. We examine reasons for making assumptions such as convenience, tradition, indications in the data, or lack of data. In addition, we discuss (i) how actuaries can judge whether these reasons are sufficient; (ii) methods that can help actuaries quantify the impact of their …

Controversial Speakers On Campus: Liberties, Limitations, And Common-Sense Guidelines, Kenneth Lasson

All Faculty Scholarship

"Veritas vos liberabit," chanted the scholastics of yesteryear. The "truth will set you free," echo their latter-day counterparts in the academy, intoning the mantra reverentially but with increasingly more hope than confidence, more faith than conviction.... The real world of the academy, of course, is not quite that wonderful, nor nearly as bad as many would suggest. The ironies become palpable, however, when those self-same institutions, which almost universally view themselves as bastions of free speech, instead stifle debate that is perceived as politically incorrect or otherwise embarrassing. Academic administrators naturally shy away from conflict and contention. They shun controversy. …

The Use And Understanding Of Indiana Statewide Testing Foreducational Progress Data By Indiana Teachers And Principals, David Kim Sever Jan 1999

The Use And Understanding Of Indiana Statewide Testing Foreducational Progress Data By Indiana Teachers And Principals, David Kim Sever

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was threefold. First, it investigated how teachers and principals across the state of Indiana use standardized achievement test data. That is, how the use of test data influences decisions about instructional methods and curriculum within their schools. Secondly, the study investigated whether or not there is greater use of test data by educators at the elementary level (K–6) in comparison to their use at the secondary level (7–12) ofEducation. A third aspect of the study was to explore the teachers' and administrators' knowledge of standardized test terminology and basic concepts. Teachers and principals of grades …
