The Best Of The Best: Ranking And Rating Digital Reference Resources, Karen R. Diaz Jan 1999

The Best Of The Best: Ranking And Rating Digital Reference Resources, Karen R. Diaz

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

What makes a Web site the best? There are myriad answers. What makes a Web site the best for reference? Even though the question is more specific, there are still many answers. A high-quality site can be hard to define in generic terms. In describing the process of selecting the top reference titles for the year, Lawrence similarly asked, "As for the pertinent question, what constitutes an outstanding reference title? Ask ten people, or librarians anyway, and you will get as many answers."(1) It has been said, in fact, that quality is like art—it's hard to define, but you know …

Random Questions About Law School And The Law: The World's First Socratic Law Review Article, C. Steven Bradford Jan 1999

Random Questions About Law School And The Law: The World's First Socratic Law Review Article, C. Steven Bradford

Nebraska College of Law: Faculty Publications

Many law professors utilize the Socratic method in their teaching, presumably because wisdom is to be found in the questions them selves. Yet, no law professors use the Socratic method in their writing. Why? I believe it is a wise marketing decision by law professors. Anyone off the street can read a law review article, and receive its wisdom for free. If law professors disclosed their full Socratic wisdom in law reviews, no one would come to law school, and law professors would be unemployed. By withholding their Socratic questions from law reviews, law professors have forced students to pay …

Orts: The George MacDonald Society Newsletter

The relatively small number of members who were able to attend the Society's AGM in London on October 16th were privileged to hear a most interesting and informative talk about the life and work of George MacDonald's great friend, the social reformer Octavia Hill (1838-1912). The talk was given by Robert Whelan, Assistant Director of the Health and Welfare Unit at the Institute of Economic Affairs, the independent 'think-tank' whose views were said to have been particularly influential when Margaret Thatcher was in power. Robert Whelan, who has a degree in English from Cambridge, has written widely on social policy …

Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD)

The Growth Council began its work in 1993, established in statute by the governor and legislature, by setting forth a vision and goals for the state's long-term economic growth. Hundreds of people were involved from government, education, business, labor, the environment and economic development. From a vast array of recommendations, the Growth Council chose 13 goals and about 50 performance measures by which to continually assess the state's progress toward achieving those goals. The Growth Council has held workshops and focus groups, and has solicited advice from experts and the state's leaders.

Caddoan Ceremonial Sites Of The Caddoan Cultural Area Of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, And Texas: Draft Caddo National Landmark Nomination, Mark R. Barnes, Timothy K. Perttula

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Since 1997, we have been working on the development of a National Historic Landmark (NHL) cover nomination for Caddoan ceremonial sites - earthen mounds in the Caddoan cultural area of southwestern Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana, eastern Oklahoma, and northeastern Texas. Such a nomination establishes the historic context within which all similar cultural properties can be evaluated for significance according to the NHL criteria, as it establishes the research and other criteria by which a cultural property may be identified as a significant archeological resource.

Top Management International Orientation And Small Business Exporting Performance: The Moderating Roles Of Export Market & Industry Factors, Franz T. Lohrke, Geralyn Mcclure Franklin, Vinay Kothari

Faculty Publications

This study examined the relationship between top management team international orientation and small business export performance. Results generally supported the hypotheses that market and industry factors moderate this relationship. Employing a sample of U.S. small business exporters, the study found that top management team international orientation had a greater positive relationship with export performance for firms exporting to countries culturally different and geographically distant from their home country than those exporting to countries culturally similar and geographically proximate to their home countries. In addition, international orientation had a greater positive relationship with export performance for firms competing in multidomestic industries …
