Golf Courses In Southern Nevada Will Significantly Impact The Water Management Efforts By Using Recycled Water Rather Than Potable Water To Irrigate Their Turf, Sean D. Ainsworth Apr 1999

Golf Courses In Southern Nevada Will Significantly Impact The Water Management Efforts By Using Recycled Water Rather Than Potable Water To Irrigate Their Turf, Sean D. Ainsworth

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

As the number of people continually move to the Las Vegas Valley and take up residence, the possibility of "running out of water" can become a reality. Having large water users (i.e. golf courses) irrigate their turf with recycled water, they will significantly impact the water management efforts in the Las Vegas Valley. When each course is irrigating their turf with recycled water, this will help ease the drinking water demand in the valley, especially during the peak demand season (summer).

A Comparative Assessment Of The Status, Structure And Process Utilized By Nevada's Family Support And Preservation Consortia To Achieve Collaboration, Marlys A. Morton

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This paper presents a framework for understanding inter-organizational collaboration and describes and analyzes how collaboration was used as a method to build new service networks, the characteristics of the consortia, and the status of the collaborative processes.

Although the literature on inter-organizational collaboration in the human services is increasing, little is known about how regional consortia view the process of working together towards a common purpose. The results reported in this paper are intended to help fill that gap.

The findings reported in this study are based on a survey process using a standardized questionnaire to study the collaborative status. …

Rio Natural Gas, The Alternative Fuel Of The Future, Peter Garner Apr 1999

Rio Natural Gas, The Alternative Fuel Of The Future, Peter Garner

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Automobile exhaust is a major contributor of harmful air pollutants. Exhaust emissions include water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous oxides (NOX), sulfur oxides (SOX), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM), and of these the four major air pollutants are CO, HC, NOX, and PM. Particulate matter is predominantly emitted from diesel fuel burning vehicles. In order to aid in reduction of air pollution, and reduce dependence on foreign oil imports, federal legislation has been enacted. The two prominent acts are the National Energy Security Act in 1992, which mandates use of alternative fuels, and the Clean Air …

Determining Cutoff Scores For The Mmpi-2 Substance Abuse Scales For An Inmate Population, Barbara A. Johnston Apr 1999

Determining Cutoff Scores For The Mmpi-2 Substance Abuse Scales For An Inmate Population, Barbara A. Johnston

Dissertations

The current research project examined the psychometric properties of the substance abuse scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, Second Edition (MMPI-2) with an inmate population. The scales of interest included the MacAndrews Alcoholism Scale Revised (MAC-R), the Addiction Potential Scale (APS) and the Addiction Acknowledgement Scale (AAS).

A total of 80 subjects were administered the MMPI-2 which resulted in 73 valid profiles. Of the valid profiles, 54 were chemically dependent and 19 were nonchemically dependent inmates. There were no differences between groups in regard to sociodemographic variables.

The data analyses indicated that the AAS and APS are efficient and …

The Effects Of A Combination Of Feedback, Goals, And Consequences On The Performance Of Four Small Businesses, Timothy V. Nolan Apr 1999

The Effects Of A Combination Of Feedback, Goals, And Consequences On The Performance Of Four Small Businesses, Timothy V. Nolan

Dissertations

Performance measurement approaches such as the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) offer a format for attending to a few performance metrics rather than several different performance indicators. While the BSC approach offers a nice format for tracking performance, it does not provide a conceptual framework for improving performance. That framework can be found in Behavioral Systems Analysis. The Total Performance System emphasizes the importance of internal and external feedback in improving performance. Several studies have investigated feedback interventions in organizational settings. The intervention found to be most effective is a combination of feedback, goals, and consequences. The purpose of the current study …

Developing A Hospital Web Site As A Marketing Tool: A Case Study, Thomas G. Widmer, C. David Shepherd

Faculty Articles

This article presents a case study which described the efforts of Siskin Hospital to develop a Web site as its marketing tool in 1999. Several years ago. Siskin Hospital, a rehabilitation facility in the southeastern U.S., began the process of developing a hospital Web site. It was agreed that a multidisciplinary team was needed. Then, the next step was to determine target audiences for the site based on the objectives. Fourteen distinct targets were identified. The type of information each would require was brainstormed and detailed. The information types were then prioritized using a matrix developed by the team.

"I Cannot Eat Air!": An Economic Analysis Of International Immigration Law For The 21st Century, Harry Valetk Apr 1999

"I Cannot Eat Air!": An Economic Analysis Of International Immigration Law For The 21st Century, Harry Valetk

Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) introduced sweeping changes to U.S. immigration policy, significantly restricting benefits for immigrants and increasing enforcement measures. These changes have raised critical policy and constitutional concerns, particularly regarding their disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and disabled. The article argues that the IIRIRA reflects broader structural issues, including the exploitation of cheap labor and the reinforcement of an ethnically divided class system. It also highlights the interplay between economic policies, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and the facilitation of illegal immigration.

The Dynamics And Determinants Of The Decision To Grant En Banc Review, Tracey E. George Apr 1999

The Dynamics And Determinants Of The Decision To Grant En Banc Review, Tracey E. George

Washington Law Review

The ability of U.S. Courts of Appeals to control the development of law within their respective circuits has been strained by the practice of divisional sittings, the growing caseload at the circuit court level, the increasing number of judges sitting within each circuit, and the decreasing probability of Supreme Court intervention. The primary method of maintaining coherence and consistency in doctrinal development within a federal circuit is en banc review. Yet, many critics contend that en banc rehearing is a time-consuming, inefficient procedure that fails to serve its intended purpose and too often is abused for political ends. This Article …

The End Of An Era: Suburban Village Aversion In Citizens For Mount Vernon V. City Of Mount Vernon, Ronda Larson Apr 1999

The End Of An Era: Suburban Village Aversion In Citizens For Mount Vernon V. City Of Mount Vernon, Ronda Larson

Washington Law Review

In 1990, the Washington Legislature enacted the Growth Management Act (GMA) to counteract problems related to unmanaged population growth. The GMA fundamentally altered two traditional aspects of land use law: the disregard for planning documents and the aversion to mixing uses within zones. Counties and cities planning under the Act now must have comprehensive plans and zoning ordinances that are consistent with those plans. They are also encouraged to use innovative zoning tools such as mixed-use housing developments. In the 1997 case Citizens for Mount Vernon v. City of Mount Vernon, the Supreme Court of Washington applied pre-GMA common …

Personal Liability For Sexual Harassment Under The Washington Law Against Discrimination, Darya V. Swingle Apr 1999

Personal Liability For Sexual Harassment Under The Washington Law Against Discrimination, Darya V. Swingle

Washington Law Review

Personal liability for sexual harassment stands at the forefront of employment law and the American political conscience. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Washington Law Against Discrimination both enjoin employers from engaging in sexual harassment. The federal circuit courts have uniformly held that individual employees are exempt from personal liability for sexual harassment under Title VII because they do not fit the statutory definition of "employer." Washington courts have yet to address the issue under state law. This Comment argues that the correct interpretation of the Washington Law Against Discrimination bars individuals from personal liability for sexual …

To Walk The Earth In Safety 1st Edition (Fy1998), Us Dos Pm/Wra

Global CWD Repository

To Walk the Earth in Safety. The United States Commitment to Humanitarian Demining informs the reader about the U.S. commitment to rid the world by the year 2010 of anti-personnel landmines (APL) which pose a threat to civilians. The most recent U.S. Government survey identified 93 countries affected with either an APL, or an unexploded ordnance (UXO) problem, or both. Although the estimates regarding the number of mines implanted in each country vary widely among sources, the U.S. estimate of APL infestation is approximately 60-70 million worldwide. This report covers FY1998.
