Single Parent Ministry In The Local Church, William A. Connors Apr 1999

Single Parent Ministry In The Local Church, William A. Connors

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This project in ministry titled, "Single Parent Ministry in the Local Church," is the result of the author's concern for the unique issues faced by today's ever increasing single parent households. This relatively new phenomenon is discussed in light of the historical roots of singleness in general. It is then shown that this "new phenomenon" is really not new at all. Single Parenting is virtually as old as creation itself, going back to the first single parent described in the Bible, Hagar. Much instruction regarding the circumstances of the single parent is discussed. The paper then examines the various, specific …

Exploring The Effect Of Welfare Reform Implementation On The Attainment Of Policy Goals: An Examination Of Michigan's Counties, Jodi Sandfort Apr 1999

Exploring The Effect Of Welfare Reform Implementation On The Attainment Of Policy Goals: An Examination Of Michigan's Counties, Jodi Sandfort

Center for Policy Research

This paper presents a cross-sectional examination of the implementation conditions within Michigan during the first year following the passage of federal welfare reform. It asks the question, “Do implementation factors in the welfare system quantitatively influence the achievement of public policy goals?” Drawing on data from 82 counties, this analysis provides an exploratory, multivariate model that controls for environmental factors outside of the influence of program implementers and examines the effects of macro- and micro-implementation conditions on an outcome desired by policy reforms. The results suggest that implementation factors do have a statistically discernible relationship to proportion of a county’s …

Stability And Change In The Living Arrangements Of Older Italian Women, 1990-1995, Cecilia Tomassini, Douglas A. Wolf Apr 1999

Stability And Change In The Living Arrangements Of Older Italian Women, 1990-1995, Cecilia Tomassini, Douglas A. Wolf

Center for Policy Research

In this work we analyze the living arrangements of elderly unmarried women in Italy. We use data from three surveys, collected in 1990, 1994, and 1995 by the Italian statistical agency ISTAT. We consider unmarried women aged 65 and older, and three household types (living alone, with children, or with others), taking into account the availability of children with whom they might share a household. During this period the percentage of elderly living alone fell slightly. We investigate these patterns with a structural analysis based on multinomial models. Results indicate that some individual variables (living in southern Italy, health status) …

Factors Related To Stage At Diagnosis In African-American And Caucasian Women Diagnosed With Breast Cancer In The Military Health System, Sandra C. Garmon Bibb Dnsc, Msn, Rn

Dissertations

The focus of this descriptive-comparative study was to investigate the relationships between potential access (race, age, socioeconomic status (SES), and the means of discovery of breast cancer), realized access (the length of time between discovery of breast abnormality and diagnosis of breast cancer, and the length of time between diagnosis and initiation of breast cancer treatment), and stage at diagnosis of breast cancer, in African American and Caucasian women, receiving care within an equal economic access health care system. The research questions were answered through secondary analysis, using data obtained from the tumor registry records of 62 African American and …

The Comparative Importance Of Books: Clinical Psychology In The Health Sciences Library, Jeffrey M. Wehmeyer, Susan Wehmeyer

University Libraries' Staff Publications

Clinical psychology has received little attention as a subject in health sciences library collections. This study seeks to demonstrate the relative importance of the monographic literature to clinical psychology through the examination of citations in graduate student theses and dissertations at the Fordham Health Sciences Library, Wright State University. Dissertations and theses were sampled randomly; citations were classified by format, counted, and subjected to statistical analysis. Books and book chapters together account for 35% of the citations in clinical psychology dissertations, 25% in nursing theses, and 8% in biomedical sciences theses and dissertations. Analysis of variance indicates that the citations …

A Comparative Study Of Women's Perceptions Of Vaginal And Cesarean Births, Karen Blamer Apr 1999

A Comparative Study Of Women's Perceptions Of Vaginal And Cesarean Births, Karen Blamer

Masters Theses

Perception of birth is an important consideration for all health care providers. A positive perception of birth can promote effective adaptation to the maternal role. The Roy Adaptation Model guided this research study comparing the perception of birth among women who delivered vaginally, by planned cesarean birth, and by unplanned cesarean birth.

Perception of birth was measured by the use of a 29 item questionnaire developed by Marut and Mercer and completed by 78 subjects two to four weeks postpartum. The ANOVA and post hoc Scheffe tests were used to measure the differences between groups.

The findings supported the hypothesis …

An Analysis For More Equitable Revenue And Expenditure Allocations Within Lingnan College, Wai Yee, Winnie Chan, Kar Yun, Carrel Ho Apr 1999

An Analysis For More Equitable Revenue And Expenditure Allocations Within Lingnan College, Wai Yee, Winnie Chan, Kar Yun, Carrel Ho

Bachelor Degree - Accountancy - Final Year Project

From the triennial 1995-98, the funds allocated from University Grants Committee to universities have decreased. In order to use the limited resources effectively, and to manage their revenue and costs efficiently, universities have to set up a better budgeting system. Therefore, the eight universities in Hong Kong are proposing the Revenue Center Management (RCM) instead of the current budgeting system. The purposes of this project focuses on the analyses of the current budgeting system adopted at Lingnan College, and the proposed RCM budgeting system.

When Warnings Alone Won’T Do: A Reply To Professor Phillips, Richard C. Ausness Apr 1999

When Warnings Alone Won’T Do: A Reply To Professor Phillips, Richard C. Ausness

Law Faculty Scholarly Articles

In his paper, Professor Phillips contends that questions about the adequacy of a product's design should be resolved by the use of a risk-utility test and that the existence of an adequate warning should merely be one factor for the jury to take into account. This is essentially the position espoused by the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability (hereinafter Third Restatement), section 2, comment l. On the other hand, Professor PhiIlips is very critical of subsections 6(c) and 6(d). These provisions establish liability for the sellers of prescription drugs and medical devices. Section 6(c), which is concerned …

Pottery And Progress: Traditional And Contemporary Pottery In Vume, Ghana, Diana Halluska Apr 1999

Pottery And Progress: Traditional And Contemporary Pottery In Vume, Ghana, Diana Halluska

African Diaspora ISPs

In this project I attempted to learn how two different methods of making pots coexist in one town. I tried to learn the techniques hands on, how they differed and to understand the historical and cultural contexts in which they fit. I also was curious to learn about the direction in which these methods are headed. I used the methods of non participation and participant observation informal and formal interview to gather my data. I found both methods of pottery to be growing and the potters to be thinking toward the future. I found many differences, but some similarities. I …
