Criminal Investigative Analysis By Gregg O. Mccrary, Gregg O. Mccrary Dec 1999

Criminal Investigative Analysis By Gregg O. Mccrary, Gregg O. Mccrary

Criminal Profiling Reports

Retired FBI Special Agent Gregg O. McCrary was asked by the State to analyze the crime and crime scene and review all pertinent case materials in order to classify this homicide. He was asked to offer opinions regarding victimology, motive and the likelihood of more than one offender being involved in this crime. McCrary concluded that the crime most resembled a "staged domestic homicide" as defined in the Crime Classification Manual. Some of the reasons for this classification included: inappropriate items were taken from the crime scene to make it appear as if burglary was the motive; no clear …

Delayed Myelopathy After Electrical Burn : Report Of Two Cases, Cheng-Jen Lo, Yao-Chia Chuang, Baii-Jia Yang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Electrical burns dramatically affect the nervous system, muscles, bones, and other tissues within the human body. Myelopathy after an electrical burn has seldom been mentioned. This article describes two cases of myelopathy admitted to our burn center after a high-voltage electrical burn incurred in the workplace, with symptoms onset around 16th and 4th day, respectively. The patients both experienced a course of deterioration, followed by a slow and partial recovery. The possible mechanisms and pathophysiology associated with electric burns are discussed.

Cerebral Infarction Due To Traumatic Internal Carotid Artery Dissection : A Casereport And Review Of The Literature, Shwu-Fen Sun, Sau-Chin Mei, Chien-Wei Hsu, Kuo-Hua Hung, Ping-Hong Lai

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Traumatic carotid artery dissection is often not recognized at the time of admission, possibly leading to cerebral infarction. This article reports on a 77-year-old man suffering from headache and neck pain after a traffic accident. Although the initial head computed tomography ( CT ) scan revealed no intracranial lesion, progressive left limbs weakness, slurred speech and blurred vision of his right eye developed on the next day after the accident. The color-coded duplex ultrasonography showed an intima flap and a false lumen in his right proximal internal carotid artery ( ICA ), which was compatible with dissection of the vessel. …

A Symbol For Transcendence : The Human Figure In The Visual Arts As A Symbol Of Psychological Wholeness As Related To The Archetype Of Divine Androgyny And The Reconciliation Of The Anima-Animus., Mason Cowell Dec 1999

A Symbol For Transcendence : The Human Figure In The Visual Arts As A Symbol Of Psychological Wholeness As Related To The Archetype Of Divine Androgyny And The Reconciliation Of The Anima-Animus., Mason Cowell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

From a Jungian perspective, this thesis investigates the ideal of androgynous transcendence by identifying the Jungian anima-animus archetype within three specific artworks produced by three differing traditions. As a result, this thesis contributes to the discipline of art history by providing a nontraditional approach to the interpretation of visual art. Although 'New Art History' is receptive to a Jungian approach in the analysis of visual art, this relatively recent and major new direction within art history does not readily embrace a Jungian understanding of the visual arts. A Jungian perspective towards the interpretation of visual art presents fascinating insights concerning …

Melting Multiculturalism? Legacies Of Assimilation Pressures In Human Service Organizations, Darlene L. Piña, Laura Canty-Swapp Dec 1999

Melting Multiculturalism? Legacies Of Assimilation Pressures In Human Service Organizations, Darlene L. Piña, Laura Canty-Swapp

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This paper examines non-profit human service agency workers' discussions of their work with diverse clients. These conversations are understood within the competing social agendas of multiculturalism and assimilation, and they suggest how service providers may resist or perpetuate the social control of people of color. Findings revealed that people of color were often excluded from providers' notions of American identity. It was common for providers, both whites and people of color, to both wittingly and unwittingly describe pressures to assimilate their clients. Providers disagreed on the merits and consequences of these assimilation pressures, with some seeing harm done to themselves …

Life After Foster Care: Services And Policies For Former Foster Youth, Madeleine R. Stoner Dec 1999

Life After Foster Care: Services And Policies For Former Foster Youth, Madeleine R. Stoner

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This article argues that interventions targeted to the needs of emancipated foster youth can prevent them from dependency, homelessness, and incarceration. It presents a profile of emancipated foster youth; focuses on their service needs; and, describes three program models addressing these. The data sources are a synthesis of previous research on independent living programs and findings about recently initiated programs. The data presented suggest policy changes to assure that emancipated foster youth continue to receive necessary service for self-sufficiency after they reach the legal emancipation age.

Ethics In Forensic Anthropology: The Evaluation Of The Forensic Anthropologist As An Expert Witness, Brent D. Benzing

Masters Theses

Within the last two decades technological advancement has enabled the forensic sciences to become much more highly complex and has provided the legal system with a specialized means of interpreting scientific evidence. In this regard, the forensic anthropologist has seen an increasing amount of time spent as an expert witness in judicial proceedings. However, expert courtroom testimony requires that a scientific witness be knowledgeable, accredited, and ethical in his representation of the discipline. This thesis studies the state of ethics among Diplomates in the American Board of Forensic Anthropology.

A survey was designed and sent to Diplomates of the A.B.F.A. …
