Computers, Art And Smart Rooms: A Smart Picture Frame That Senses The Weather And Genetically Evolves Images, Marisa E. Kolodny
Computers, Art And Smart Rooms: A Smart Picture Frame That Senses The Weather And Genetically Evolves Images, Marisa E. Kolodny
Dartmouth College Undergraduate Theses
By using sensors to sense the environment and genetic programming to evolve images, this thesis explores two methods for developing smart pictures that can be integrated with a living space. The system presented senses the weather and indoor conditions, displays current weather and forecast information retrieved from the web, and displays genetically evolved images. Sensing the weather not only provides the user with information they might find useful, but also allows the computer to gain a better understanding of the user which in turn allows the computer to respond more accurately. Genetic programming allows the computer to better respond to …

Observing Attachment Disorder In Adults, Aileen G. Ockwig
Observing Attachment Disorder In Adults, Aileen G. Ockwig
Theses and Graduate Projects
Mental health professionals who work with adults typically encounter clients who have issues left over from childhood. This paper discusses the Attachment Theory first conceptualized by John Bowlby and the therapeutic implications with adults concerning attachment theory based on psychoanalytic-object relations theory. Understanding and emphasizing the importance of affectional bonds with caring others is an essential part of treating adult clients with attachment issues. The purpose of this study is to define the nature of the therapeutic relationship between client and clinician to identify therapeutic strategies that create a safe place for adult clients to explore issues of attachment, separation …

Univercity News (1999-06-07)
UniverCity News, 1998-2001
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Grieving The Loss Of A Partner: The Ways Of Isolation A Hermeneutic Experience, Nichole M. Yager
Grieving The Loss Of A Partner: The Ways Of Isolation A Hermeneutic Experience, Nichole M. Yager
Theses and Graduate Projects
This hermeneutic, qualitative study was undertaken to find out what the lived experience has been for one woman who lost her partner. Hermeneutics is an interpretive approach to looking at everyday experiences and uncovering what is usually hidden from us. Theorists have developed many frameworks to apply to the bereaved person. They try to explain how the loss will affect those who suffer a loss. This study attempted to capture what this experience was like for one bereaved person, what her thoughts and feelings were while living the experience and how this experience has changed her life. The participant lost …

From The Field: Observations On Using Gis To Develop A Neighborhood Environmental Information System For Community-Based Organizations, Wendy A. Kellogg
All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications
This paper describes and analyzes an application of a geographic information system (GIS) to create a profile of environmental hazards and resources in an older, inner-city neighborhood in Cleveland. The client, a community development organization, sought the profile as the basis of new organizing and community planning efforts concerning environmental quality and environmental health issues. The objective was to obtain and assemble spatially referenced environmental data existing in the public domain and map that data according to the service area of a neighborhood-based development organization. The study describes and analyzes the utility and data management capacity issues that would likely …
