Stem Cell Research: Licit Or Complicit?, Vincent Branick, M Therese Lysaught

Institute of Pastoral Studies: Faculty Publications and Other Works

In November 1998 biologists announced that they had discovered a way to isolate and preserve human stem cells. Since stem cells are capable of developing into any kind of human tissue or organ, this was a great scientific coup. Researchers envision using the cells to replace damaged organs and to restore tissue destroyed by, for example, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, or even Alzheimer's. But, since stem cells are taken from aborted embryonic and fetal tissue or "leftover" in vitro embryos, their use raises large ethical issues. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently decided to fund research employing, not stem cells, …

Legalization Of The Birth Control Pill In Japan Will Reduce Reliance On Abortion As The Primary Method Of Birth Control, Evy F. Mcelmeel

Washington International Law Journal

The United Nations has decreed that access to a variety of methods of birth control is a basic human right, that prevention of pregnancy, not termination, is the goal of birth control, and that abortion is an unacceptable method of birth control. Until recently, condoms and the rhythm method were the only legal forms of contraception in Japan. Need Fulfilment, Leadership Styles And Effectiveness: A Study Of Two Indian Organisations, Reeta Mohan, Rajeev Mohan

IIMB Management Review

Need fulfilment of an individual in an organisation is very important, because the success of the organisation depends upon the level of motivation of its members, and the appropriateness of the leadership pattern in a particular situation. An extremely motivated group of employees can help the organisation sustain itself even in the worst environmental conditions. On the other hand, its success might be jeopardised if its employees are not motivated toward work. Working on the theory that the needs and values of the leaders may have considerable influence on the type of leadership behaviour they choose, and the fact that …
