Restructuring The Schoolbook Provision System In Indonesia: Some Recent Initiatives, Dedi Supriadi

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

Schoolbooks account for between 65% and 75% of all publishing activity in Indonesia. The amount of money allocated is continually increasing. Priority is given to the primary and junior secondary school levels (6+3 years), which are compulsory. Between 1969 and 1988, the Government of Indonesia (GOI) has produced some 550 million primary textbooks and library books. ...

Jural Districting: Selecting Impartial Juries Through Community Representation, Kim Forde-Mazrui Mar 1999

Jural Districting: Selecting Impartial Juries Through Community Representation, Kim Forde-Mazrui

Vanderbilt Law Review

Court reformers continue to debate over efforts to select juries more diverse than are typically achieved through existing procedures. Controversial proposals advocate race-conscious methods for selecting diverse juries. Such efforts, however well-intentioned, face constitutional difficulties under the Equal Protection Clause, which appears to preclude any use of race in selecting juries. The challenge thus presented by the Court's equal protection jurisprudence is whether jury selection procedures can be designed that effectively enhance the representative character of juries without violating constitutional norms.

Professor Forde-Mazrui offers a novel insight for resolving this challenge. Analogizing juries to legislatures, he applies electoral districting principles …

Field Station Under Threat, Paul Faulstich

Pitzer Faculty Publications and Research

As reported in the last issue of The Other Side, The Bernard Biological Field Station of the Colleges is slated to be the site of the Keck Graduate Institute, the newest (but yet unbuilt) addition to the Claremont Consortium. With Pitzer casting the sole dissenting vote, the Claremont Colleges approved construction of the Keck Institute on eleven acres of the 85 acre Field Station.

The Journals Of Lewis And Clark: Almost Home, Gary E. Moulton

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)

My entry into the world of Lewis and Clark was quite indirect. My wife Faye saw an ad for the editorial position in a professional journal in 1978 and encouraged me to apply. That I was to be unemployed the next year was a compelling incentive. My professional interests in the American West, Native Americans, and historical editing gave me an edge. In fact, I was just completing editing the papers of Chief John Ross of the Cherokees, supported for four years by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) of the National Archives.

Child Labour: Is There A Competitive Advantage, Ramón A Ramos Arriagada, Cristina Castillo Gatica

IIMB Management Review

The Indian experience with Outbound Programmes has clearly been a mixed one. With the initial euphoria passing over, managements are beginning to wonder if management development is getting to be more and more like branded potato chips - puffed up and pricey but the same old stuff inside. Indeed there is every possibility of the Outbound Programme going the way of all other bandwagons: into the clearance sale shelves of the management supermarket. Padaki and Venkatesh attempt to demystify Outbound Programmes (OP) and provide guidelines to organisations contemplating OP, on how to prepare for a worthwhile OP experience, what to look for …
