Characteristics Of Bald Eagle Communal Roosts In Northern Utah And A Survey Of Eagles Occupying Roosts, Robert B. Wilson May 1999

Characteristics Of Bald Eagle Communal Roosts In Northern Utah And A Survey Of Eagles Occupying Roosts, Robert B. Wilson

Biology

The numbers of eagles occupying either the Willard Canyon roost or the Ogden Bay roost exceeded the combined total of other communal roosts documented in Utah. These roosts are among the largest known communal roosts in the lower 48 states, and the largest documented winter roosts within the McKenzie-Intermountain Flyway. During the winters of 1997-98 and 1998-99 I surveyed several Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) roost sites in northern Utah to document their geographic location, habitat, and occupancy. I conducted surveys from December 1997 to April 1998 and December 1998 to April 1999. Most winter roosts were communal, as …

"Ni Chicha Ni Limonada": Depictions Of The Mulatto Woman In Cuban Tobacco Art, Feliza Medrano

Research Papers

During the mid-nineteenth century, a traveler from the United States by the name of Samuel Hazard sojourned in Cuba. His visit coincided not only with the island's tobacco and sugar booms, but also with the initial stages of the Ten Years' War (1868-1878). Hazard's published journal entitled Cuba with Pen and Pencil (1871) chronicles late colonial Cuba's urban and rural society with an honest, astute, yet relentlessly foreign eye. In addition to his descriptions of people and places, many chapters of Hazard's journal provide detailed accounts of cigar and cigarette production and consumption in Cuba. For Hazard, who would have …

Feasibility And Implementation Planning For The Pan-Am Centennial, Mcm Group International, Harrison Price Company

Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers

Can a centennial edition of the Pan American Exposition in 2001 be used to reinvigorate the regional economy? Will a celebration of international magnitude help reposition the image of Buffalo as a vital and energetic community? Does Buffalo have the will to reclaim its past glory? The Buffalo Niagara leadership, along with grass-roots community groups fascinated with the potential of a centennial celebration to catalyze a halt to the regions decades long decline, has urged an answer to these vital questions. In the fall of 1998, a Pan American Centennial Exploratory Committee was formed to evaluate the potential impact and …

Close-Range And Satellite Remote Sensing Of Algal Biomass In The Iowa Great Lakes, Eric A. Wilson May 1999

Close-Range And Satellite Remote Sensing Of Algal Biomass In The Iowa Great Lakes, Eric A. Wilson

Department of Geography: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The utility of both close-range and satellite remote sensing for assessing inland water quality was examined in the Iowa Great Lakes. The water quality of this system is of considerable interest because of its status as an environmental, recreational, and therefore, economic resource. The broad range of optical conditions present in the lakes and the wealth of literature on the system make it an ideal environment for water quality remote sensing research. The goal of this research was to survey the water quality of the Iowa Great Lakes via remote sensing, evaluate different predictive algorithms, and map the distribution of …
