Between Heaven And Hell: The Plight Of The Eastern Kentucky Coal Miner, Rebecca C. Norris Jan 1999

Between Heaven And Hell: The Plight Of The Eastern Kentucky Coal Miner, Rebecca C. Norris

Theses

This thesis will focus on the dilemma of the present day coal miner in the eastern Kentucky mountains.

Historically, the coal mining profession has been one presenting extremely dangerous work conditions. From its roots in the 1880s, coal mining has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of miners, the majority of these deaths being caused by explosions. Working conditions were horrendous and there was no legislation in place to protect the miner. The life and living conditions of the miner were determined by coal operators who ran coal towns. These towns were the heart of the miners' lives. 'The …

The Impacts And Implementation Of Integrated Marketing Communications, Min-Fang Wu Jan 1999

The Impacts And Implementation Of Integrated Marketing Communications, Min-Fang Wu

Theses

In the current market place, there are two points that occupy the marketer's attention. One is the necessity of integration; the other is the importance of communications. Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) is the crystallization of the two thoughts.

Because the entire market place is changing so rapidly, factors that result in a successful business are too complicated. Integration of all kinds of market resources is no longer a marketing theory which is discussed by academics. It has become a necessary solution to business.

On the other hand, the popular issue of communication does not simply reflect the deep relationship of …

The Relationship Between Working Status Of Mothers And Parental-Child Attachment, Sherri Denise Brown

Theses

The factors which influence the development of attachment between mothers and children were examined in this study. The researcher specifically looked at the differences in attachment with regard to the mother's work status during infancy. Thirty-five adolescent subjects completed the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment test (lPPA). The subjects were categorized into four groups based on what their mothers' work status was during their infancy. The information regarding work status was obtained through a demographic sheet completed by the parents of the subjects.

The test completed by the subjects consisted of twenty-five statements regarding a relationship with their mother. …

One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn Jan 1999

One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn

Theses

The Library of Congress lists over eighty books that deal exclusively with Tennessee Williams. A vast number of these books cover anecdotal information about Tennessee's personal life, experiences, and relationships through his emotionally turbulent life. A great deal of biographical material presents conflicting accounts and many authors claim to have " the real story'' on Tennessee's life and loves.

If the reader is interested in titillating tidbits on Tennessee, this is not the paper to read. However, Mr. Tennessee Williams wrote from bis heart and his life experiences. Because of this, attention needs to be paid to how he drew …

Aggression And School Performance Among Seventh-Grade Students Enrolled In A Midwestern Suburban Middle School: A Social-Cognitive Behavioral Perspective, Gayle G. Anderson

Theses

Aggressive tendencies constitute a consistent behavioral pattern that spans early childhood through preadolescence, adolescence, and adulthood. Researchers have linked high levels of preadolescent aggression with adolescent adjustment problems in school, the home, and community. This study explored the relationship between aggression levels and school performance among a sample of seventh-grade students. Thirty subjects were randomly selected from a seventh-grade class (n=230) located in a midwestern suburban middle school. Behavior and academic performance was associated with aggression levels as measured by the Missouri Children's Behavior Checklist (MCBC) among this sample. Academic performance, as measured by Grade Point Average (GPA) was negatively …

Freedom Of The Press In Democratic Countries, Chiao-Yen Lin Jan 1999

Freedom Of The Press In Democratic Countries, Chiao-Yen Lin

Theses

Ever since freedom of the press was established along with the democratic system, how much limitation to impose on free press has been an arguable issue. This study discusses freedom of press from authoritarian to libertarian systems. Free press indeed is an inalienable right in democracy; however, the imperfections under liberalism and capitalism need to be attended and reviewed. The purpose in this study is to develop guidelines to retain respectable journalism and to elevate the ethics of the press.

Research cases relative to the most common problem-invasion of privacy-establish one area of irresponsibility of the press in the contemporary …
