Take Time To Listen, Deb Rood Sep 1999

Take Time To Listen, Deb Rood

Cornhusker Economics

Harvest is one of those times when it抯 the best and worst of times on a family farm. The anticipation of harvesting your crops is always a highlight for families, the stress of actually getting it done can be overwhelming. One of the things family members can do to make harvest less stressful is to take time to listen to each other. Good communication between family members can make harvest one of the best times. Especially if you know exactly what part you need for the combine. Here are a few tips to help you become a better listener:

The victim, was clearing a lane past the remains of a dead cow and was already a metre past the cow when the accident occurred. While the victim was sweeping with the mine detector he received a signal on the right 10-cm overlap of the lane he was busy clearing. The ground at the accident site sloped slightly to the right of the lane. The victim started to prod in the area of the signal by using the prodder. When he was prodding on the right of his base stick, he activated an explosive device. This occurred at approximately 13:00.

Conformal Actions In Any Dimension, Andre Wehner, James Thomas Wheeler Sep 1999

Conformal Actions In Any Dimension, Andre Wehner, James Thomas Wheeler

All Physics Faculty Publications

Biconformal gauging of the conformal group gives a scale-invariant volume form, permitting a single form of the action to be invariant in any dimension. We display several 2n-dimensional scale-invariant polynomial actions and a dual action. We solve the field equations for the most general action linear in the curvatures for a minimal torsion geometry. In any dimension n > 2, the solution is foliated by equivalent n-dimensional Ricci-flat Riemannian space-times, and the full 2n-dimensional space is symplectic. Two fields defined entirely on the Riemannian submanifolds completely determine the solution: a metric eμα, and …

Grade Inflation Rates Among Different Ability Students, Controlling For Other Factors, Stephanie Mcspirit, Kirk E. Jones Sep 1999

Grade Inflation Rates Among Different Ability Students, Controlling For Other Factors, Stephanie Mcspirit, Kirk E. Jones

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

This study compares grade inflation rates among different ability students at a large, open admissions public University. Specifically, this study compares trends in graduating grade point average (GPA) from 1983 to 1996 across low, typical and higher ability students. This study also tests other explanations for increases in graduating GPA. These other explanations are changes in 1) ACT score 2) gender 3) college major and 4) vocational programs. ...

A Study Of Good Practices In Classroom Libraries, Kindergarten Through Second Grade, Michele Boniscavage Sep 1999

A Study Of Good Practices In Classroom Libraries, Kindergarten Through Second Grade, Michele Boniscavage

Theses and Dissertations

A study of six classrooms was made, two kindergarten, two first grade and two second grade. The purpose of the study, conducted by a school librarian, was to identify and share good practices in classroom libraries. Teachers in an urban district and a suburban district were interviewed about their acquisition methods. Methods of acquisition included book fairs, participation in professional activities, discarded library books, donations, yard sales and school purchases. Students were interviewed about their usage habits, borrowing books, and their favorite books. A description of each library is given including arrangement, displays, furnishing and shelving. The number and type …

Stellar Masses, Kinematics, And White Dwarf Composition For Three Close Da+Dme Binaries, Stephane Vennes, John R. Thorstensen, Elisha F. Polomski Sep 1999

Stellar Masses, Kinematics, And White Dwarf Composition For Three Close Da+Dme Binaries, Stephane Vennes, John R. Thorstensen, Elisha F. Polomski

Dartmouth Scholarship

We determine the mass functions and mass ratios for three close white dwarf plus red dwarf binaries (EUVE J0720-317, 1016-053, and 2013+400). Hubble Space Telescope Goddard High-Resolution Spectrograph spectra of the He II λ1640 and C IV λ1550 spectral lines trace the white dwarf orbital motion, and Hamilton Spectrograph echelle spectra (Lick Observatory) and lower dispersion spectra trace the red dwarf orbital motion. The data sets allow us to measure orbital periods and velocities, as well as the white dwarf gravitational redshifts. The red dwarf and white dwarf mass estimates obtained from a combination of independent mass measurements for the …

Taste Quality And Extinction Of A Conditioned Taste Aversion In Rats, Rick A. Bevins, Heather C. Jensen, Todd S. Hinze, Joyce Besheer Sep 1999

Taste Quality And Extinction Of A Conditioned Taste Aversion In Rats, Rick A. Bevins, Heather C. Jensen, Todd S. Hinze, Joyce Besheer

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Rats (Rattus norvegicus) that received a taste cue (saccharin, saline, quinine, or sucrose) paired with a lithium chloride (LiCl) injection displayed a robust decrease in consumption of that taste, relative to controls that had the taste unpaired with LiCl. Consumption of the paired taste increased with each nonreinforced presentation (i.e., extinction). After asymptotic extinction, rats that had had a 0.1% saccharin cue paired with LiCl consumed less of the saccharin solution than did controls. A similar data pattern was observed with a 10% sucrose solution. These results are consistent with the view that some aspect of the excitatory …

Hubble Space Telescope/Faint Object Spectrograph Spectroscopy Of Spatially Resolved Narrow-Line Regions In The Seyfert 2 Galaxies Ngc 2110 And Ngc 5929, Pierre Ferruit, Andrew S. Wilson, Mark Whittle, Chris Simpson, John S. Mulchaey, Gary J. Ferland Sep 1999

Hubble Space Telescope/Faint Object Spectrograph Spectroscopy Of Spatially Resolved Narrow-Line Regions In The Seyfert 2 Galaxies Ngc 2110 And Ngc 5929, Pierre Ferruit, Andrew S. Wilson, Mark Whittle, Chris Simpson, John S. Mulchaey, Gary J. Ferland

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We present the results of UV and optical Hubble Space Telescope/Faint Object Spectrograph spectroscopy of bright, extranuclear regions of line emission in the Seyfert galaxies NGC 2110 and NGC 5929. We have obtained spectra of the brightest region of the ``nuclear jet'' of NGC 2110 (75 pc from the nucleus) and of the southwest emission-line cloud of NGC 5929 (90 pc from the nucleus), in the G130H (1090-1605 Å), G190H (1570-2310 Å), G400H (3235-4780 Å), and G570H (4570-6820 Å) configurations. The observed line ratios are compared with the predictions of the two component (matter- and ionization-bounded, MB-IB), central source …

Large‐Scale Power Spectrum And Cosmological Parameters From Sfi Peculiar Velocities, Wolfram Freudling, Idit Zehavi, Luiz N. Da Costa, Avishai Dekel, Amiram Eldar, Riccardo Giovanelli, Martha P. Haynes, John J. Salzer, Gary Wegner, Saleem Zaroubi

Dartmouth Scholarship

We estimate the power spectrum of mass density fluctuations from peculiar velocities of galaxies by applying an improved maximum likelihood technique to the new all-sky SFI catalog. Parametric models are used for the power spectrum and the errors, and the free parameters are determined by assuming Gaussian velocity fields and errors and maximizing the probability of the data given the model. It has been applied to generalized cold dark matter (CDM) models with and without COBE normalization. The method has been carefully tested using artificial SFI catalogs. The most likely distance errors are found to be similar to the original …
