Verification And Validation In Software Product Line Engineering, Edward Alton Addy Dec 1999

Verification And Validation In Software Product Line Engineering, Edward Alton Addy

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Verification and Validation (V&V) is currently performed during application development for many systems, especially safety-critical and mission-critical systems. However, the V&V process has been limited to single system development. This dissertation describes the extension of V&V from an individual application system to a product line of systems that are developed within an architecture-based software engineering environment.;In traditional V&V, the system provides the context under which the software will be evaluated, and V&V activities occur during all phases of the system development lifecycle. The transition to a product line approach to development removes the individual system as the context for evaluation, …

Development Of Decision Support System For Reliability, Mitesh Bhupendra Parekh

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Reliability analysis is now an essential part of any product development. In the field of Electrical Engineering, reliability models are developed and analyzed for every component before it comes to market. The complexity of the product can range from a simple transistor to an integrated circuit chip, from a simple communication link to a complex network, and from a small generator to a large powerhouse.;Over the period, several techniques have been developed to systematically model real systems and then analyze them. These techniques are constantly being enhanced to improve the modeling process and to reduce the time required for the …

Use Of Randomly Amplified Polymorphic Dna-Polymerase Chain Reaction (Rapd-Pcr) To Distinguish North American Populations Of Acroptilon Repens (L.) Dc, Raul A. Ruiz

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Sixty U.S. populations of Acroptilon repens collected in 1998 were analyzed using RAPD-PCR. Each population was represented by five specimens gathered from each location. A total of 301 specimens were examined using two Operon Technologies, RAPD-PCR primers (A 10 and C04). The DNA amplification products produced through the PCR process were electrophoretically separated to produce DNA fragments ranging from 100 to 2000 base-pairs in length. The 60 U.S. populations sampled, produce ten RAPD banding pattern types using A 10 primer and seventeen pattern types with C04. Genetic variation within and among the populations was low, however, one dendogram did show …

Affective And Motivational Components Of The Flow State: Rock Climbing Revisited, Helen Hooper Dec 1999

Affective And Motivational Components Of The Flow State: Rock Climbing Revisited, Helen Hooper

Theses and Dissertations

The affective and experiential components of the flow state, as outlined by Csikszentmihalyi (1975), have served as a basis for research into optimal experience over the past twenty years, and although adjustments have been made by various researchers, the description of the characteristics remain essentially the same. This study used qualitative methods to further explore this area . With the initial aim of enhancing our understanding of the optimal experiences of rock climbing participants, the present study purposefully sampled fifteen informants representative of the range of characteristics found in the setting. Questioning techniques and analysis methods used in this study …

Economic Dispatch And Optimal Sizing Of Battery Energy Storage Systems In Utility Load-Leveling Operations, Chin H. Lo, Max Darwin Anderson Dec 1999

Economic Dispatch And Optimal Sizing Of Battery Energy Storage Systems In Utility Load-Leveling Operations, Chin H. Lo, Max Darwin Anderson

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Battery energy storage (BES) systems show promise of savings for both the utility and the customer. An algorithm combining multi-pass dynamic programming (MPDP) with a time-shift technique has been developed for two purposes: economic dispatch of BES and finding optimal BES power and energy capacities in a power system. Due to the daily cyclic nature of the load curve, a 168-hour load curve is decomposed into seven 24-hour subsections for easy management. Each subsection is treated independently. Decomposition can save computation time and computer memory. A time-shift technique provides better starting state values and improves the finding process of the …

Multimedia Databases, S. R. Subramanya

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The acquisition, generation, storage and processing of multimedia data in computers and transmission over networks have grown tremendously. Databases have been developed to cope with huge amounts of data in different applications. Multimedia databases (MMDB) are essential for efficient management and effective use of this data. They are however still in their infancy. Most current MMDB system prototypes are closely bound to narrow application areas. Experiences gained from developing and using novel multimedia will help advance the multimedia database technology.

Full Length Transcript Promotor From Figwort Mosaic Caulimovirus (Fmv) And Use To Express Chimeric Genes In Plant Cells, Indu B. Maiti, Robert J. Shepherd

Kentucky Tobacco Research and Development Center Faculty Patents

Use of wild type and modified viral FLt promoters of FMV in the expression of chimeric genes in plant cells. The FLt promoter from FMV is modified with duplicated enhancer domains. The FLt promoter with its single or double enhancer domains is linked to heterologous coding sequences to form chimeric gene constructs. These genes have been shown to be expressed well in plant cells.
