Application Of Comcheck-Ez And Aseam In Energy Consumption Analysis, Ingrid D. Hubert Dec 1998

Application Of Comcheck-Ez And Aseam In Energy Consumption Analysis, Ingrid D. Hubert

Electronic Dissertations and Theses

As required by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EP Act) each state must adopt energy efficiency standards for commercial buildings. Being that most university buildings were constructed prior to this act their structural components do not meet criteria. Therefore modifications must be made to bring these buildings up to standards. ComCheck-EZ can be used to determine the percentage of actual compliance with criteria and ASEAM can be used to determine expenditures in kWh of electricity, therms of gas and dollar amount. By using these software it is determined that the Clark Annex thoroughly passes lighting criteria and barely passes …

New Caribbean Locality For The Extinct Great White Shark Carcharodon, Clare Flemming, Donald A. Mcfarlane Dec 1998

New Caribbean Locality For The Extinct Great White Shark Carcharodon, Clare Flemming, Donald A. Mcfarlane

WM Keck Science Faculty Papers

Carcharodon is represented by a single upper tooth (Fig. 1) which we extracted from the eroding Pliocene limestone wall, some six meters above the floor at the northern end of Darby Sink. Much of the tooth is missing, but the remaining portion includes features diagnostic of this genus. The tooth conforms in size and morphology to Carcharodon megalodon (Agassiz, 1843), an extinct great white shark.

NEWSLETTER Winter 1998-99 The Importance of John Muir's First Public Lecture, Sacramento, 1876 by Steve Pauly, Pleasant Hill, CA INTRODUCTION his article focuses on Muir's first public lecture and its importance as one of several turning points in his evolution as a public figure. A Survey Of Research On Sensor Technology For Landmine Detection, Claudio Bruschini, Bertrand Gros Dec 1998

A Survey Of Research On Sensor Technology For Landmine Detection, Claudio Bruschini, Bertrand Gros

The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction

According to official figures, more than 100 million landmines lie buried around the world. Although intended for warfare, these mines remain active after warfare ends. Each day these mines are triggered accidentally by civilian activities, ravaging the land and killing or maiming innocent people. To help stop this destruction of the environment and humanity, the scientific community must develop effective humanitarian demining. Mine detection is especially vital to humanitarian demining. The goal of military demining is to clear enough mines quickly to allow troops through a land area. Military demining usually requires mine destruction rates of 80%. The goal of …

Current Situation And Perceived Needs For Head And Face Protection In Humanitarian Demining, Andy Smith Dec 1998

Current Situation And Perceived Needs For Head And Face Protection In Humanitarian Demining, Andy Smith

The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction

The safety equipment used in humanitarian demining in developing countries would be considered inadequate by any Western army engaged in combat demining or explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) work. No set of standards is imposed and the standards that have arisen are surprisingly low. There is no widely accepted need for better protective equipment, but demining organisations do seem to be slowly levelling-up in the equipment that they use. Very few demining groups routinely wear helmets. Those demining groups that are concerned about head protection usually favour a 30cm high full-face visor hanging on a head-harness (or head-frame). The visor provides …

Observations On Groundwater Recharge In The Westdale Catchment, M F. Lewis, C E. Mcconnell Dec 1998

Observations On Groundwater Recharge In The Westdale Catchment, M F. Lewis, C E. Mcconnell

Resource management technical reports

A study of the role of groundwater carriers and barriers in controlling salinity was carried out in the Westdale Catchment by Lewis and McConnell (in preparation). Although that study was primarily concerned with groundwater flow and discharge processes, the data collected also provided rudimentary information on the timing of groundwater recharge events and their distribution across the landscape.
