The purpose of this study was to investigate community college students' and their teacher's perceptions about writing in a beginning composition course. This study explored student and teacher views about composition, possible tensions about ways writing is defined, and ways to resolve tension. Specifically, this study addressed the following questions:
- How do my perceptions as a writing instructor in a beginning community college composition course compare with my students' perceptions?
- How do my students and I understand real and perceived consequences that arise from various views about writing?
- How could my students and I mediate or resolve various views about …
Student Self-Assessment, Portfolios, And The Context Of The Classroom, Colleen Goodenbour
Student Self-Assessment, Portfolios, And The Context Of The Classroom, Colleen Goodenbour
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that seemed to influence student self-assessment in a language arts classroom where portfolios are used as a vehicle to align teaching, learning, and assessment. This was a qualitative study using naturalistic inquiry as a means to identify and explicate those factors. Data were gathered on individual students and the classroom by observation, which took the form of anecdotal records, surveys, portfolio work samples, conferences, and a personal reflective journal. This data provided information for three student portrayals and a composite language arts morning portrayal. The analysis of the portrayals and …

Observations of the extreme ultraviolet emission of helium ions at 30.4 nm can be used to study the global shape of the plasmasphere and its dynamical response to geomagnetic forcing. In order to retrieve number densities of plasmaspheric He+ from such observations, we have developed a new inversion technique based on discrete inverse theory, which uses the optical data to optimize a parameterized model of the He+ distribution. We apply this inversion technique to several orbits of data obtained from the Naval Research Laboratory extreme ultraviolet photometric experiment launched on the STP 72-1 satellite in October 1972. The inversion is …

Screw Holding Ability (Sterength) Of Wood Materials Used In Furniture Manufacture, Yalçın Örs, Ramazan Özen, Sefer Doğanay
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, the holding ability of three different types of screws to particle board, Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), werzalit and beech wood which are widely used for furniture production, were investigated. The holding direction of the screws to all materials surface were both parallel and perpendicular. The experimental results showed that on the perpendicular direction, beech wood materials showed the best screw holding strength and it was followed by werzalut, MDF and particle board respectively. When the screw holding strength is parallel to the surface, highest screw holding strength was also seen at beech wood materials and it was …

Effect Of Irrigation Water On Corn Grain Yield In Ankara Conditions, Y. Ersoy Yildirim, Süleyman Kodal
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This research was conducted in Ankara conditions in order to determine corn yield response to water. When 50% of available water content in root zone is consumed in the control treatment, irrigation water was applied to the other treatments with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200% of those applied into check plots. As a result, applications of ex-cessive water was not increased grain yields at the important level. Yield response factor (k y ) for total growing period were found as 0.96 respectively.
Effect Of Various Nitrogen Sources On Yield And Some Propertiesof Potato Plant, Sait Gezgi̇n, Şerife Uyanöz
Effect Of Various Nitrogen Sources On Yield And Some Propertiesof Potato Plant, Sait Gezgi̇n, Şerife Uyanöz
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this investigation, the effects of some slow release and conventionally used fast release nitrogen sources in the soils of Nigde-Misli plain on tuber yield, and protein, starch and NO 3 contents of tubers of the potato plants grown under greenhouse condi-tions were determined. Effect of nitrogen levels on tuber yield, as mean of nitrogen sources were found as follows: N 2 >N 1 >N 4 >N 3 >N 0 . On the other hand, increasing levels of nitrogen applied to the soil increased the protein and starch contents of the potato tubers. The highest and low-est tuber yield as …

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in mushroom growing at the Black Sea Region. In order to encourage mushroom growers in term of giving them inclination of mushroom growing, the potential, problems and the costructural situation (which already exists) of mushroom production sheds in the region should be examined. For this reason, 24 mushroom growing plants located in the Middle and East Black Sea Region (Ordu, Samsun, Sinop, Amasya and Trabzon provinces) were included to the present study to be investigated. It was from the present study that most of the mushrom growing plants in the region were …
Determinations Of Microbiological Activity, Organic Matter And Nitrogen Forms In Soil In The Different Soil Tillage, Fallow-Wheat...., M. Sait Adak, Andreas Biesantz, Velittin Gürgün
Determinations Of Microbiological Activity, Organic Matter And Nitrogen Forms In Soil In The Different Soil Tillage, Fallow-Wheat...., M. Sait Adak, Andreas Biesantz, Velittin Gürgün
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles higher soil microbiological activities (i.e.b-Glucosidase and dehydrogenase activity) were obtained from soil samples of winter lentil plots in comparision to fallow plots. Highest activities of both parameters were found in the upper soil layer of 0-20 cm depth. The observed differences between lentil and fallow disap-peared during the following cropping season. Similar tendencies were also obtained for organic matter, total nitrogen and total porosity volume in the soil. It could be observed that soil fertility improved with regard to these parameters after lentil. Thus, a legume crop (e.g. winter lentil) should …

It is my pleasure today to introduce our keynote speaker, Professor Larry Lessig. Professor Lessig is the Jack and Lillian Berkman Professor of Entrepreneurial Legal Studies at Harvard Law School and is a renowned scholar in intellectual property, constitutional, Internet, and new media law. Indeed, the last time Professor Lessig spoke here at Fordham, he was focusing on his pioneering work addressing fidelity in constitutional interpretation. Of course, not the sort of fidelity that the Senate is debating this afternoon.
