The Role Of Good Nutrition. Good Physicians And The Advantages Of Alternative Medicine: An Educational Program For Senior Adults, Violet Connoyer

Theses

This study examines previous and forthcoming knowledge of ancient medicinal remedies and solutions which provide and enable]e the acquisition of better and safer health care. Because of political reasons which appear to be dominant over all others, this inherent knowledge continues to seemingly remain obscure within the medical world and within our society. Continued education plays a vital role in the assessment of health care today because statistics stress that too many Eves are daily being snuffed out because of careless and improper drug administration and insidious drug reactions which follow thereafter. As a result, many people are striving to …

The Relationship Between Self-Esteem And Academic Motivation Among Male Secondary Education Students, John Luddy Burke Iii

Theses

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-esteem and academic motivation among male adolescents. Sixty-five male students from a St. Louis area college preparatory school volunteered to participate in this study. These students completed a test consisting of Russell Ivan's (1969) Academic Motivation Scale and Morris Rosenberg's (1965) Self-Esteem Scale. A Pearson-Product Moment correlation analysis was performed to determine the correlation between the two scales. The results suggest that self-esteem is not correlated with academic motivation among adolescent males.

They offer the opportunity for an individual or case manager to explore alternative forms of healing when conventional treatment alone is not effective. The Entrepreneurially-Minded Employee's Guide To Career Management, Linda Y. Brown

Theses

This thesis will explore the concept of the employee as entrepreneur and how the importance of this concept may ensure employability among managers currently working within Corporate America.

Although they realize these events can affect them any moment , many do not proactively take the responsibility for their own careers.

According to author Gareth S. Gardiner, in his book, 21st Century Manager, the employee as entrepreneur …

Identifying The Firm-Specific Cost Pass-Through Rate, Jonathan Baker, Orley Ashenfelter, David Ashmore, Signe-Mary Mckernan

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

A merger that permits the combined company to reduce the marginal cost of producing a product creates an incentive for it to lower price. Accordingly, the rate at which cost changes are passed through to prices (along with an estimate of the magnitude of cost reductions that would result from merger) matters to the evaluation of the likely competitive effects of an acquisition. In this paper, we describe our empirical methodology for estimating the cost pass-through rate facing an individual firm, and for distinguishing that rate from the rate at which a firm passes through cost changes common to all …

Wielding The Double-Edge Sword: Charles Hamilton Houston And Judicial Activism In The Age Of Legal Realism, Roger Fairfax

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

A new progressive movement in the law profoundly affected the American judicial climate of the 1930s and 1940s. The jurisprudence of American Legal Realism, which sprang from the progressive American sociological jurisprudence, boasted the adherence of some of America's most influential legal minds. Legal Realism, which complemented the New Deal reform legislation emerging in the 1930s, advocated judicial deference to legislative and administrative channels on matters of social and economic policy. Judicial activism, which had been used as a tool for the protection of economic rights since the late nineteenth century, was seen as inimical to progressive social reform and, …

As concepts of "fuzziness" have filtered from technical journals to popular science magazines to trade paperbacks, they have begun to appear in legal commentaries as well.

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Aretas Brooks Fleming (1839–1923) businessman and Democratic party boss came from a prominent Fairmont family with extensive political connections throughout the region. He was not rich, but was well born, and able and followed the Virginia tradition of marrying well. He used an extensive kinship network, which was a community unto itself, to build a successful law practice and to start his climb up the political ladder. Fleming's dedication brought both political and business success, as he served in the West Virginia legislature and then judge of the second judicial circuit of West Virginia. Fleming's basic interest in politics, however, …

Gendered Expectations: An Exploration Of Identity And Power In The Life Of Katherine Of Aragon., Jennifer R. Daum Jan 1998

Gendered Expectations: An Exploration Of Identity And Power In The Life Of Katherine Of Aragon., Jennifer R. Daum

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

How is it that Katherine of Aragon, a woman seemingly destined for a major impact on world events, has been relegated to the role of scorned wife and stubborn obstacle to historical progress? Beliefs about women’s roles limited Katherine while she was alive and influenced historical interpretations about her after her death. Katherine’s own interpretation of her role as a wife and mother evolved out of her perceptions of the opinions of others. The role that others had created for her was rigidly interpreted and internalized by Katherine. By not allowing herself to be used as a pawn by either …

Development Of A Systems Approach To Planning, Design And Operations Of Intermodal Passenger Transfer Facilities To Increase The Mobility And Safety Of Older Travelers., Mohammad Anwarul Karim

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

America, as a society, is aging. Currently, 13% of the population is 65 years of age or older. This percentage is expected to rise to 21% by 2030. Since older travelers frequently suffer from one or more age-related physical and/or information handling decrements, they often have problems using intermodal passenger transfer facilities. The overall goal of this study was to develop a framework which can provide an approach to identify older traveler issues associated with intermodal passenger transfer facilities and serve to guide planning and engineering improvements to intermodal passenger transfer facilities to increase the safety and mobility of older …

A One Term Tort Reform Tale: Victimizing The Vulnerable, Andrew F. Popper Jan 1998

A One Term Tort Reform Tale: Victimizing The Vulnerable, Andrew F. Popper

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals

During its spring 1997 term, Congress passed the Volunteer Protection Act and considered but did not pass the Biomaterials Access Assurance Act of 1997. The Volunteer Protection Act provides a wide range of tort immunities to volunteers working for charitable organizations. The Biomaterials Access Assurance Act would have provided tort immunity to biomaterials producers. In this Article, the author examines the origins and possible implications of both these tort reform proposals from a class-based perspective and within the broader context of the ongoing tort reform debate. The author concludes that both of these proposals ultimately would harm individuals in vulnerable …
