The central thesis of this Article is that each party's desire to attain personal happiness underlies all decisions in negotiations. While this paradigm does not resolve all of the uncertainties about negotiations, it does provide a simple reference point that can help us understand what the parties to a negotiation want, expect, and are willing to accept. It can also help us develop and employ effective strategies and tactics. The objective of all negotiators is to obtain satisfactory outcomes. This thesis explores conscious liberal tolerance attitudes in America after World War II. Its specific focus is antisemitism, and it utilizes Hollywood films Crossfire (1947), Gentleman's Agreement (1947) and the British Oliver Twist (1948) as the context for analysis. The origins of classical antisemitism are examined, as well as the history of antisemitism in England and America. American societal attitudes towards Jews are discussed and depictions of Jews in American films until 1947 are presented. This study investigated peptide accumulation and bitterness in reduced- and full-fat Cheddar cheeses that were manufactured with single-strain Lactococcus lactis starters that had distinct cell envelope proteinase specificities. Micellar electrokinetic capillary electrophoresis of aqueous cheese extracts detected three large peaks, designated O, P, and Q, that eluted with peptide standards and increased in area during cheese maturation in a pattern that was distinct for each starter. Regression analysis of bitter flavor scores from trained sensory panels and individual OQ peak areas suggested that peaks P and Q had a negative and positive correlation, respectively, to this defect. The data for this cross-sectional retrospective study are from surveys of 65 dairy-cattle herds in central New York, USA sampled between February, 1993 and March, 1995. The objective was to identify probability distributions of logarithmically transformed somatic-cell counts (linear score) for use in a simulation model of mastitis and milk quality. Probability density functions were estimated using maximum-likelihood estimators for the linear score of individual-cow composite milk samples culture negative and culture positive for the pathogens Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus non-agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, and coagulase-negative staphylococci for the complete dataset and by bulk-tank somatic-cell count group (< 500 000, ≥ 500 000 SCC/ml). This study attempts to understand more about how to quantitatively assess longitudinal change within the Transtheoretical Model applied to the area of condom use among college students. A total of 215 sexually active male and female undergraduate students completed both assessments one month apart. Measurement development was conducted on the Condom Use URICA scale, which was then used in a cluster analysis. A four cluster solution was reliably replicated across two random samples (R²=.99), and the clusters were then examined in terms of their external validity using MANOVAs. A novel method for in situ preparation of injectable biodegradable microspheres from the copolymer poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) without incorporating unacceptable organic solvents is described. The delivery system is a dispersion of PLGA microglobules ("premicrospheres" or "embryonic microspheres") in an acceptable vehicle mixture (continuous phase) and whose integrity is maintained by use of appropriate stabilizers. A solution of PLGA. triacetin, drug, PEG 400, and Tween 80 (Oil Phase 1) are added dropwise with continuous homogenization to miglyol 812-Span 80 solution (Oil Phase 2), thereby inducing phase separation (coacervation) of PLGA and forming PLGA microglobules (containing the drug) dispersed in the …

The feasibility of a new imaging system is investigated. This system will be used to image electrical conductivity distribution of biological tissues via contactless measurements. This will be achieved by introducing currents in the conductive medium using time-varying magnetic fields and measuring the magnetic fields of the induced currents. In this study, images of nonuniform and uniform electric current density in conductor phantoms, which contain magnetic resonance active nuclei, are produced using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). A standard spin echo pulse sequence is used, with the addition of a bipolar current pulse. The flux density parallel to the main magnetic field, generated by the current pulse, is encoded in the phase of the complex MR image. The spatial distribution of magnetic flux density is extracted from the phase image. Current density is calculated using the magnetic flux density. In two dimensional conventional Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT), volume conductor is probed by means of injected currents, and peripheral voltage measurements are used as input to the reconstruction algorithm. The current that flows in the 2D object creates magnetic fields that are perpendicular to the plane of imaging. Such magnetic fields can be measured using magnetic resonance tomography. In this study, Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method is used to calculate the Specific Absorbtion Rate (SAR; defined as the power absorbed by unit mass of the tissue) distribution in a human head near a hand-held cellular phone. A three dimensional FDTD algorithm is built in cartesian coordinates. A discrete human head model, derived from a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) image by semi-automatic algorithm, is located within FDTD volume together with a discrete hand-held receiver model. The Agricultural Water Quality Index (AWQI) is an assessment tool designed for use in agroecosystems. Most existing environmental indices and assessment tools focus on the stream channel and/or riparian zone (the area between the channel and active land use). In contrast, the AWQI places an emphasis on land use and soil types that play a significant role in hydrologic cycles and water quality characteristics within the watershed.

The AWQI is designed to be used by agricultural technicians with limited experience in aquatic ecology; however, it does assume a reasonable background in soil characteristics. This index is intended for use during …

The primary purpose of the Agricultural Water Quality Index (AWQI) is to provide the agricultural community with a practical technical method for conducting cost-effective water quality assessments of rivers and streams in agroecosystems. The protocols presented have been derived from extensive literature review and the results of field research in agroecosystems performed during the summer of 1997 by the authors of this index. This assessment tool is not intended to replace those already in use by state agencies or to be used without regional modifications.

Abstract.—We investigated distribution and dispersal patterns of subadult and adult Colorado squawfish Ptychocheilus lucius (recently renamed the Colorado pikeminnow) throughout their range in the upper Colorado River. Annual, river-wide, capture–recapture data were used to document movements during a 5-year period (1991–1995). Average total length of Colorado squawfish progressively increased upstream: juveniles and subadults occurred almost exclusively in the lowermost 105 km of the 298-km study area, whereas most adults were concentrated in the uppermost 98 km. This was most pronounced early in the study and less so later due to the effect of two or three strong year-classes that dispersed …
