Synthesis, Molecular Structure, And Reactivity Of Dinuclear Copper(Ii) Complexes With Carboxylate-Rich Coordination Environments, Richard C. Holz, John M. Bradshaw, Brian Bennett
Physics Faculty Research and Publications
The dinucleating ligand N,N‘-(2-hydroxy-5-methyl-1,3-xylylene)bis(N-(carboxymethyl)glycine) (CH3HXTA) has been used to synthesize the dinuclear Cu(II) bis(pyridine) complex Na[Cu2(CH3HXTA)(Py)2]·1.5(1,4-dioxane) (Na(1)): triclinic space group P1̄ (a = 12.550(3) Å, b = 13.413(3) Å, c = 13.540(4) Å, α = 117.12(2)°, β = 104.70 (2)°, and γ = 92.13(2)°). The structure shows two distinct distorted square pyramidal Cu(II) centers with each Cu(II) ion bound by two carboxylate oxygen atoms, one amine nitrogen atom, a phenolate oxygen atom, and one pyridine nitrogen atom. The Cu--Cu separation is 3.531 Å, …

The Chlamydia species are obligate intracellular bacteria that proliferate only within the infected cell. Since the extracellular bacteria are metabolically inert and there are no cell-free systems for characterizingChlamydia metabolism, we studied metabolic changes related to ATP synthesis and glycolysis in HeLa cells infected withChlamydia psittaci during the course of the 2-day infection cycle using noninvasive 31P and 13C NMR methods. We find that the infection stimulates ATP synthesis in the infected cell, with a peak of ATP levels occurring midway through the infection cycle, when most of the metabolically active bacteria are proliferating. The infection also stimulates synthesis of …

The Anchor: 1998
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
