Are Wildlife-Caused Losses Of Agriculture Increasing?, Alice P. Wywialowski
Are Wildlife-Caused Losses Of Agriculture Increasing?, Alice P. Wywialowski
Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 18th (1998)
Both the percent of producers reporting and the value of wildlife-caused losses increased from 1989 to 1994. In 1994, 58% of respondents reported wildlife-caused losses of their agricultural commodities, an increase from the 55% of respondents who reported losses in 1989. Based on the median value of producer-estimated loss, wildlife caused losses cost producers approximately $591 million in 1994, $130 million more than in 1989. Losses based on producer estimates have been consistent with field-measured estimates of damage. While these losses represent 1 % of the value of agricultural production, losses were not evenly distributed and 23% of producers estimated …

Directory Of Dominicanists, Norberto P. James
Directory Of Dominicanists, Norberto P. James
Publications and Research
This Directory of Dominicanists, compiled by the Wellesley-based Dominican poet and educator Norberto P. James, constitutes the CuNY Dominican Studies Institute's first step in a long-term effort to identify a critical mass of U.S.-based scholars working on Dominican topics. The Directory intends to serve as a vehicle for Dominicanists to connect and to give the scholarly community a clearer sense of the growing cadre of academics dedicated to the study of the Dominican experience.

Glenn Korff School of Music: Faculty Publications
The mass media abound with tales of fundamental change in the world of classical music. A New York Times article on the crisis in the classical compact disc (CD) industry reports that, after a transient rise in sales during the 1980s, classical CDs' market share dropped to an all-time low of 2.9 percent. There are also frequent reports of funding woes that have reduced and, in some instances, put an end to entire orchestras. A string of articles in the Wall Street Journal and other newspapers has chronicled the seismic shift from classical to mass-media-oriented music in churches, where a …

Population Dynamics: The Foundation Of Wildlife Damage Management For The 21st Century, Richard A. Dolbeer
Population Dynamics: The Foundation Of Wildlife Damage Management For The 21st Century, Richard A. Dolbeer
Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 18th (1998)
To justify and defend lethal or reproductive control programs to solve vertebrate pest problems, wildlife biologists must have a sound understanding of the population status and dynamics of the problem species. Models are essential to project how populations will respond to proposed management actions, providing a scientific foundation to counter the emotional debates that often arise. Four population models (PM1 to PM4) for predicting population responses are described. PM1 and PM2 explore the relative efficacy of reproductive and lethal control for vertebrate species over 10-year intervals. PM3 simulates population responses to actual management actions through 10-year intervals. PM4 simulates population …

Ageing In The Asia-Pacific Region : Trends And Policy Implications, David Rosser Phillips
Ageing In The Asia-Pacific Region : Trends And Policy Implications, David Rosser Phillips
APIAS Working Paper 工作論文
Summary
This paper reviews the background to demographic ageing in the Asia-Pacific region and discusses some of the economic and cultural features associated with it. The region includes countries exhibiting a variety of experience in demographic ageing and percentages aged 65 years or more range from 3% to 16%. Fairly distinct sub-regional ageing groupings are emerging. At the demographically older extreme lie Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Korea. With somewhat smaller percentages of elderly people come China (with huge numbers of elderly people but low per capita income), Thailand and Indonesia and which are likely to have above the …
